Stark County Ohio finishes 1925 with a nearly six hundred thousand dollar surplus and a total estimated 1926 fund of about one million nine hundred ninety two thousand dollars. No payroll raises were approved. only small additions, with major spending focused on road construction and general county maintenance.
In New York on January 16 police seized a quarter of a million dollars worth of alcohol and quors and dismantled an oil burning still. One man was arrested in connection with the operation after two raids by law enforcement.
In Farmington West Virginia 19 Jamison Coal No 8 miners lie dead after an explosion. Twenty one others escaped unharmed after being entombed about twenty hours. West Virginia Mines Chief Lambie said an official probe would begin next week. Company investigators plan to enter the mine once gases are cleared. In Cincinnati area last night a double deck Norwood Bus Company bus leaped a curb on Montgomery road opposite Weyer avenue in Norwood. It struck a brick pile and hung on the edge of an excavation for a house cellar, injuring twelve riders who are recovering and grateful to be alive.

Ex congressman John W Langley of Kentucky will sleep behind bars tonight as he begins a two year sentence for conspiracy against the prohibition law at the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary. He traveled with his nephew from Cincinnati to Atlanta and planned to meet Roy B Williams at Lexington for the remainder of the trip. Langley protests his innocence, saying he was convicted on testimony from a corrupt and confessed conspirator.
Washington January 16 a new clash on the federal prohibition staff will trim the force to about 250 within days and nearly end the dry organization begun nine months ago by General E. C. G. Andrews. The anniversary of prohibition’s effectiveness marks the shift as over 400 subordinate officials, legal and technical experts, and clerks have been removed from headquarters, once a staff near 1,000.
