Dayton Jan 10 Preparations were under way to transport James Wilson of Toledo to the Ohio penitentiary after his conviction last Saturday on charges of possessing burglar tools explosives and detonation caps. A sentence of one to ten years was imposed.

Panic sparked by a cry of fire led to a deadly stampede at the Laurier Palace theater in Montreal. Seventy six people, mostly children, died as exits clogged and bodies trapped on a narrow stairway. Patrick E. McDermott, convicted slayer of Don R. Mellett, remains in Cleveland as a witness for Ben Nadel on his harboring trial. McDermott will not be brought back until Tuesday, with court officials and witnesses from Canton present. Details reveal Nadel’s attempts to distance himself from McDermott, and plans to transfer McDermott to the workhouse after the Cleveland proceedings.
The Canton Auto Club requests widening Market Ave N between 6th St and 1st St to match a wider section from 6th St south. At a Monday meeting of its new officers the issue was discussed and, after immediate action, sent to council for consideration next Monday. City officials referred the matter to the streets and bridges committee for recommendations.

Bertillon photos and measurements will be used to identify five prisoners who escaped Sunday night by digging through a crumbling wall. They left hatless and coatless into near zero cold, triggering a countywide manhunt that failed to locate them. Authorities say two stolen autos may have aided the escape. onlookers found bottled liquor in the basement and noted a raid years earlier that had ordered its return. The escapees are Fred Strauss, Charles Hudson, Michael Thornton, Thomas R. Morton, and Charles Pitta, all indicted for burglary, larceny, and weapons charges.
The mercury hovered around 11 degrees above zero Monday morning, the coldest in the past 20 hours. Early Sunday the thermometer showed 19 above as a stiff north wind continued with no relief in sight, Weather Observer Carl Meyer reported.
Columbus January 10 The attention of corn growers in northern Ohio in districts infested with the European corn borer is directed by Charles V Traux state director of agriculture to the opportunity of breaking down standing corn stalks and high stubble while the ground is frozen using a heavy pole or rail dragged over the field. This breaks off stalks and stubble at the surface destroying the borer habitat. The debris should then be burned.
In Los Angeles on January 14 the entire Aimee Semple McPherson case was dropped. Atty Meyer appeared before Judge Albert Lee Stephens and the charges against Mrs McPherson and co defendants were dismissed.
Governor Vic Donahey, beginning his third term, urged Ohioans to take interest in government and fulfill civic duties. He stressed lawful conduct, tolerance, and service, addressing thousands of schoolchildren listening by radio and stressing education, discipline, and respect for authority.
Police in Canton failed to find any slot machines after warnings to cigar shops pool rooms and confectionery stores. Chief John H Wise said prosecutors will seek a court ruling to permit smashing machines and confis cated tokens while awaiting a test case to determine the legality of slot machine operations in the city.
