Fifty three hundred passengers endured a 55 day voyage aboard the Thessalonika with 49 cabin and 128 steerage travelers arriving on the Patris. They faced engine failures water famine and near mutinous pleas for help but finally were transferred January 1. Greek captain refused to abandon ship and the Patris towed thrice with two failed tow attempts and a broken stanchion before rescue. One passenger William Williams described the voyage from Piraeus on November 16 to Gibraltar and the Atlantic storms including a 12 hour bruising gale.

At Central High School, teacher C. H. Corbett allegedly struck 15 year old John Derwechter after candy was thrown across the room. Derwechter received a deep cut over the right eye and the teacher was arrested on assault and battery charges with a hearing set for Tuesday.
