Washington January 6 Republican members of the House Ways and Means Committee discussed legislation to validate about 25 000 bonus applications that failed to reach the veterans bureau by midnight December 21. No decision was reached and the matter will be reconsidered by the full committee in coming days. The War Department advised that the Comptroller General ruled applications valid only if filed here by midnight December 31, though it had been understood they were valid if mailed by that time.
Frank C. Moore, 58, of 302 Broadway NW, was found dead in his Canton home late Thursday with wrists slashed. An ill health history followed a recent automobile accident near Sugarcreek. Moore, a mechanical engineer, lived in Canton nine years and belonged to the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include daughter Nita, son Clifford, his mother Mrs. Sarah Moore of Newcomerstown, a sister Mrs. Phil Keys of Newcomerstown, and brothers Charles Moore of Marion Ind and Roy Moore of Conesville Ohio. Private funeral services set for Saturday at 2 with Rev. A L Wilson. Burial in Westlawn Cemetery.
Prosecutor Henry W. Harter Jr said the January grand jury’s first partial report could arrive late Friday. A large number of witnesses remain to be examined and the report may be delayed until Saturday.
Ed Siemund, an escaped inmate, was captured Thursday night by Motorcycle Patrolman Steve Skotnicky. The officer watched him closely and said he took no chances to prevent a possible escape while awaiting backup. Siemund begged to be taken to police HQ on the officer’s motorcycle, but was refused.
Ed Siemund known as a trusty escapes from Ohio Penitentiary with Levi Woods in December as guards fan out across the region. He was held in city jail Friday while deputies prepared to return him to the penitentiary. Police and detectives questioned him about a recent wave of robberies but believed he was not involved.
CINCINNATI Jan. 6 Common Pleas Judge Charles Bell denied George Remus petition for a writ of habeas corpus to halt his committment to the Lima state hospital for the criminally insane. Remus, once a millionaire bootlegger, was found not guilty of murdering his wife on insanity grounds and ordered committed by Probate Judge William H. Lenders who ruled he is sane but dangerous. Bell's ruling ends Remus last freedom bid, leaving appeals as his only path.
The Senate finance committee debated a Dill bill to give World War veterans preferential employment in all government departments. A Frazier bill to mint a one cent Longfellow tribute was before the banking and currency panel. Tydings proposed double pensions for dependents of officers and men lost in submarine disasters.
Coast guard headquarters reported no word yet on the fate of the American schooner Avila 600 miles east of Florida. The cutter Mascoutain was sent from Norfolk after the United Fruit liner Sixola radioed that Avila was leaking and its pump partly out of order.
Word reaches Wooster of the death of Col. Harry M. Orr 50 native of Wayneco who passed away recently in the Army and Navy General Hospital at Hot Springs Arkansas.

In Mexico City a Sandino letter claimed he would detonate five tons of dynamite rather than surrender, vowing not to let imperialists occupy Nicaragua.
In Managua Lindbergh visits amid demonstrations. Marines at Quilali are bolstered by 120 machine gunners and poised for a decisive test against Sandino. Sandino vows never to be captured and to detonate five tons of dynamite. Washington officials say Sandino will be crushed soon.
Report from near Quilali Nicaragua notes no hostilities for two days while Marines stay in touch with their supply base aided by a Fokker aircraft delivering rations ammunition machine guns and medicine. Brig Gen Logan Feland of Columbus is named to command U S Marines in Nicaragua.
John Klonoski five, visiting Floyd Moore five, was shot in an upstairs room after Floyd showed a revolver from a bureau drawer. The children were alone. John was taken to Mercy Hospital with a bullet through the nose into the right cheek and is listed in serious condition.

In Cleveland 19 year old Alice Preskar was killed by Anthony Yontez 19 after a dance quarrel over other men. Yontez told detectives he shot her because she smiled at other boys and said the gun jammed when he tried to shoot himself.
