Civil engineer and council member elect Arthur Bowman dies at 80 after prolonged illness. His death prompts questions about succession and appointment to his unfinished council term.
Ohio telephone subscribers protested to the public utilities commission against higher charges for moving and changing telephones. Harry Townsend of Zanesville filed a complaint. Adams Lumber Company of Columbus also protested proposed service charges and charges for long distance report receiving.
In New York on January 6 a detective died from a bullet wound after a gangster broke from custody and opened fire near the 135th Street police station. Detective Francis J. Buckley and Detective Wm. A. Miller were shot while transporting a suspect, who fled as officers searched the Harlem area for the killer.
Women Letha Rogers Claude Newman and R J Thompson elected to Wayne town council. B G Chapman defeats Boyd Chambers to become mayor. The new council plans a municipal clean-up.

Charlies A. Fromm of Reedurban announced in Canton on Friday his Republican bid for Stark County commissioner in the upcoming election. Fromm is a farmer and auctioneer, well known in Stark County for his auctioneering and service on the Stars-co fair board from Perry-to for the past several years.
N C Armstrong of the Bureau of Commercial Economics Washington will speak on The Lure of the North at a Chamber of Commerce smoker Friday evening in the Chamber rooms. The event invites all members and will cover commercial possibilities of the north.
At a special city council meeting an ordinance was approved authorizing Auditor Samuel E. Barr to transfer 4481 from the contingent fund to the street department budget to cover December payrolls totaling 6000. Any shortfall beyond 4481 will be drawn from the tax fund as previously.

New Brunswick New Jersey January 6 1934 carpenter George Garea aged forty was found guilty of murder in the first degree for killing five year old Theresa Kucharekt on December 2. He disposed of the body in a suitcase and was sentenced to die in the electric chair the week of February 6.
