Five convicts escaped after luring guard Robert Stewart into the cell corridor with a pretext for toothache. Stewart was knocked unconscious and the prisoners seized keys, freeing six inmates and vanishing as police and a posse scoured Stark County at midnight.
Ex-President Theodore Roosevelt died at Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay at 4 this morning from a clot of blood on the heart. He had returned home Christmas Day from Roosevelt Hospital after a period of illness. His son Archie Roosevelt, then in Boston, was notified and rushed to the estate. The house was closed to visitors as doctors prepared an official statement.
