He is 69 and plans to settle with wife and daughter in Toledo.
Frances Jenkins, 22, is near death after her husband Ernst Jenkins, 32, shot her four times during a dispute in Chillicothe. The man has been arrested. Police say the shooting followed a dispute over the Hickman kidnapping case.
Beverley Hills January 5 Lindbergh arrives in Nicaragua with the hope of steering the United States from war after having kept it out of earlier conflicts. The tone questions whether neutrality can be maintained now that the country is involved. Will Rogers comments urging decisive action.
Marines at Quilali prepare for a decisive clash with Sandino aiming to exterminate him without 1 000 US reinforcements. Lejeune calls Sandino a bandit and murderer and says he will be annihilated before elections. Navy cites 16 dead and about 40 wounded Marines since May 15, with rebel losses estimated 380 to 450 killed and an unknown number wounded. Public fear of US mockery could muzzle Congress as plans to crush rebels advance. Washington defends Nicaragua policy as the fair course for the country.
Maj. Gen. John A. Lejeune, marines commander, labels Augusto Sandino a bandit and murderer and says the U S will deploy a large force to Nicaragua to end his killings before the August elections. He notes Sandino’s outlaw band's roots and past actions across Central America.
Midwestern Motor Transit seeks Ohio Public Utilities Commission approval to operate a through motor bus route from Detroit to Pittsburgh. If granted, a fleet of 24 passenger buses would serve Fostoria Tiffin Bucyrus Mansfield Wooster and Canton with possible entry via Minerva or Alliance.
New York reports 770 liquor related deaths for 1927, the highest total since Prohibition began, according to figures from the city health department.
Gov Don Ahy refused executive clemency for Floyd Hewitt 17 condemned to die after sundown for a Conneaut double murder. State clemency board reviewed the case and urged no mercy saying they cannot interfere with court decisions. Hewitt killed Mrs Brown then struck Brown boy with a baseball bat. he feared the child would inform police.
Massillon Aero Corp began equipment work at Ernest Street site of the old Russell and Co plant. A low-wing monoplane with a five cylinder air cooled radial motor is planned as the first Massillon product. President Thomas H. Taylor says production will begin after assembly and test of the initial aircraft. Designer G. H. Goembel, recently added, was with National Aircraft Corp at Troy, Ohio.
Massillon officials announce a Massillon Chamber of Commerce meeting for Tuesday noon at the Massillon Club to elect officers and organize the new board. Seven of fourteen candidates were chosen for two year terms: D K Gensemer Jorgy Putman Jacob Von Gunten H Crawford George Freeborn Charles D Beans and M P L Kirchoffer. The board will also elect the president and other officers for 1928 at the session next week.
The Saranus A Lengel murder trial will transfer to Lisbon next Tuesday. Deputy clerk Cathon says a new bond for Lengel’s appearance is set at the same amount as before. Prosecutor Harter and Sheriff Gibson head to Lisbon to arrange the trial as papers are prepared for the transcript of proceedings since Lengel’s indictment last summer.
ASHTABULA Jan 5 Municipal affairs here are directed by a new city manager J E Breen after the city council ousted Carey S Sheldon and city treasurer A E Wilcox yesterday. E H Burrill was named treasurer.
Columbus January 5 Former Senator Atlee Pomerene of Cleveland will be formally endorsed as favorite son candidate for the presidential nomination at a joint meeting of the Democratic state central and executive committees. The committees will also select a second choice candidate whose name may be used with Pomerene’s by delegates to the national convention. John L. Zimmerman of Springfield and George White of Marietta, former national committeemen, are considered for the honor.
A final conference with Mayor C. C. Curtis and William H. Miller, a manufacturer and lawyer, is planned for Thursday to confirm Miller's acceptance of the safety director post. Miller was offered the job last week but delayed due to business. A street car workers group urged James Ray as street commissioner, and Edward L. Preston seeks reappointment as street commissioner. Curtis said announcements would come late in the week.
A fog over Mexico City delays departure from Tampico of two goodwill planes en route from Houston New Orleans and San Antonio carrying businessmen. They rested in Tampico yesterday due to bad weather and may depart later if conditions improve.

Charles A. Lindbergh accepted an invitation from Haiti’s government and planned a possible stop en route from Panama to Havana or Cuba. He prepared to fly from Tegucigalpa toward Managua avoiding active fighting zones while citizens praised his goodwill mission in Honduras.
The West Hixton reported a ship aground off Cape Disappointment near Astoria. Coast guard and life saving stations were notified and Cutter Snohomish has left Astoria. It was believed the vessel was either the K. V. Kruse or the schooner North Bend.
Col C B Robbins of Cedar Rapids named by President Coolidge to succeed Col Hanford MacNider as assistant secretary of war said he will accept if confirmed. He has a year’s leave of absence from Cedar Rapids Life Insurance Co., where he is president, and favors a small efficient regular army and a well trained national guard.
Wooster Electric Company filed new light and power rate schedules with the public utilities commission in Columbus. Bills from February onward will be charged under the updated rates.
In Columbus on January 5 reports say Roscoe C. McCulloch of Canton plans to enter the Republican gubernatorial race to challenge Atty. Gen. FE Turner. Friends fear Turner’s field may be narrowed as Backers push McCulloch to clash with Turner on wet and dry issues and utility control.
Massillon officials seek Stark county aid in a survey of the Tuscarawas River flood situation. The Massillon Chamber of Commerce also asks to delay the new Cherry Street bridge construction until state reports are available. The body authorized Acting President Charles Gordon to press county commissioners about dredging or straightening the river prior to bridge erection.

Columbus Jan 5. Members of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association in convention here will demand that prospective embalmers be required by law to acquire an education considered on par with a college degree. The move aims to raise standards and professionalize the trade.
Detroit records a spate of killings as police race to solve seven deaths in five days. Ethel Porter, 33, found beaten and strangled in Highland Park apartment after eloping with Charles Gibson from Huntington. Other cases include Dr. Martin Browning murdered at his garage and Patrolman Buhler found dead in a city alley. Two suspects held for New Year’s party murder. Stabbings in Italian section add to the unrest.
Cleveland January 5 Death toll claimed Joseph V Zottarelli 59 former Cleveland attorney once sentenced to Atlanta federal penitentiary for a war savings stamp scandal. He faced nine years and a $3000 fine. Government to seek collection from Mrs M Roberto who bonded liable. Case rose to supreme court after year and a half of litigation in Cuyahoga and federal courts.
Washington January 5 Secretary of the Treasury Mellon announced the government will issue new securities this year to retire 2,147,653,150 of 4 1 2 percent outstanding third Liberty loan bonds. New treasury certificates and notes at lower rates will be exchanged for bonds maturing September 1928.
