Cotugno his wife baby and two boarders were asleep and unhurt. A black hand plot is suspected after Cotugno said he received a threatening letter demanding 5000 dollars. Earlier in July a bomb struck the home of Frank McGuire lieutenant of the vice squad.

Prosecutor C B McClintock announced he will urge the state board of health to end Nimishillen Creek pollution and plans injunctions against Canton and several plants if action is not taken. Residents along the creek report oil and filth draining into the water so that it smells and cannot be used for stock. The state board previously ordered plants to stop discharging oil acids and refuse within two years, a deadline many firms did not meet. Sewage from Canton is also alleged to worsen the pollution.
