A south bound N C T limited derailed near Bedford injuring 36 people. William and Harry Talbert of Canton suffered serious cuts while Mrs J W McElhenney and Leonard Punk were among other hurt. Ambulances rushed from Cleveland and Bedford as passengers were freed and treated at homes and nearby farms.

At the first meeting of the new Canlow board of education Keplinger was elected president, his fifth year as head. The old board adjourned sine die and new officers Lehman and Keplinger formed the new leadership with Dr Ed Folk as vice president. Water receipts for 1921 fell by over 47000 from 1920 as meters and wells reduced domestic uses.
Washington January 4 The tariff sub committee led by Oscar Underwood has nearly agreed on a five percent tariff for China with a possible rise to seven and one half percent later if conditions are met. China had pressed for at least twelve and a half percent, making the five percent a setback for its aims.
The schooner T. K. Bentley was damaged in a collision with the battleship North Dakota off Cape Cod late last night and towed toward Boston today by the battleship. The Bentley is believed badly damaged while the battleship sustained no serious damage.

All assets are liquidated except a $2790 note and burglary claim to be assigned to Marando's administrators.
Federal Judge J C Westenhaver appointed Booth as receiver for the Canton properties of Republic Rubber Co of Youngstown and the Republic Corp of New York and allied entities, following creditor filing by a Cleveland law firm.
The man found in a field near Howenstine was identified as John W. Benson of Akron aged about seventy. He left Akron Friday December 23 for Canton to visit a sister and died likely of heart failure while walking. He wore nice clothes with a gold watch ring and pin and bore cards with his name and sister Mrs H B Stauffer’s address in Cleveland. Funeral services were to be held in Utica ville with Odd Fellows conducting.
Dublin January 4 President De Valera announced plans to force a Dail vote on his amendment to change the oath linked to the treaty with Great Britain. The move disrupts the planned sequence, with Austen Stack expected to push a rejection resolution as a test of the treaty’s fate. Miss MacSwiney and others argued rejection would be disastrous while De Valera’s tactic signaled fear of ratification if debate continued.
