John Corrie, 44, of 1006 S Lindenau Alliance, died in his room after taking carbolic acid. He had been ill since pneumonia last year and despondent over health. He left three children and lived with Mrs. Earley. He belonged to the Eagles and worked for Alliance Structural Steel. Funeral Friday at 3 30 p m. Jan 2 Berlin dispatch reports German Minister Noske ordering the Fifth Division to press against a Polish force of about 20 000 moving toward Berlin from the east. Soviets confirm Poles crossed the frontier at Skalmierzyce and are converging. Warsaw notes full Polish mobilization. Paderewski reportedly with the Polish army at Skalmierzyce, 130 miles southeast of Warsaw near Kalish.
Berlin reports that Herr Noske the German demobilization minister announced a volunteer army will be raised from men over 24 who have six months front service. They may elect officers and will first serve on the east front to counter the menacing situation there.
Baltimore dispatch reports two killed and ten seriously wounded when a trolley car sped down a steep grade, jumped tracks, and crashed into a saloon dwelling. Lieutenant Thomas R Rowley of Camp Meade is among the injured. brakes failed to stop the car.
Washington reports that Majority Leader Kitchin and the House Rules Committee secured a special rule to send the revenue bill to conference. The move aims to keep the postal zone substitute by the Senate out of a separate house vote while promising separate votes on child labor, bone dry, and campaign contribution amendments. Democrats control the house and are expected to push the bill toward conference, with Republicans preparing a verbal fight but not a delay.
