Judge Quinn binds John T. Stanton over to a grand jury on charges of fraud linked to a Market ave sandering job. The street department neglect notes and questionable methods prompted the decision while Stanton cites possible later statements. Bond set at 500 dollars.
Judge Moore of Lisbon rules county commissioners lacked authority to enter the contract with Tildens for jail addition plans. Auditor Oberlin had refused to pay 59 16.25 for the work, leading to mandamus actions. The case, tried a month ago, questions contract legality and commission powers.
Eight and a half year old Georgie Winch came from east of Pittsburgh to see his sister Mery at Phillips Bible Institute. Not finding her, he remained alone in the city until the police took him to the station, where he was cared for and later sent back to Pittsburgh.
Paris reports unofficial word from the French marine ministry that a German submarine attempting to attack a British troop transport near Havre has been sunk. The rumor says the sub was destroyed after firing a torpedo at the transport.
Columbus officials announce a plan to cut the quarantine radius from five to three miles around hoof mouth infection sites and to allow interstate livestock shipments from several additional counties. Names to be released with the order. Most infections now centered in Ottawa Wood and Sandusky counties with occasional outbreaks likely for weeks.
The will of Josiah Hartzell directs the equal distribution of his real and personal estate to seven children. Named heirs include Wilbur J. Delaware voters will decide under the Real Local Option law on January 19. Petitions circulated by the dry forces were filed at a council meeting, totaling 1065 names, exceeding the legal requirement by about two percent. Judge J. W. Roberts in Ashtabula reserved his decision in a gas rate injunction case, with the city having obtained a restraining order against higher charges.
