Staley, age 20, of 1024 Seventh Street NE, had requested an afternoon off the day before.

The Young Women’s Christian Association will open domestic science and sewing classes for war brides to prepare them for civilian life before their husbands return from France. Courses will cover cookery and housekeeping, with a month to prepare, as many brides having worked in munitions plants since earlier weddings.
