Three members of a Geneva area family of five died in a farmhouse fire. Chris Megal, 45, his daughter Rosie, 17, and Sanford, 15, perished. Mrs Megal burned seriously and may die. Neighbors rescued the husband, who was awakened by smoke. The family was asleep when the blaze started. the husband discovered the fire.
A strong earthquake struck Curico in Chile, killing several people and causing damage to telegraph lines. Aftershocks and telluric currents were reported by El Salto Observatory, with minor tremors felt in Curico yesterday.
