Jacob Jones Sunk by German Submarine in Foreign Waters

The navy said the destroyer Jacob Jones was torpedoed and sunk on December 6 while patrolling foreign waters. About 100 crew members were aboard. 37 survived, rescued from life rafts. Lieutenant Commander David Worth Bagley, brother of Mrs. Daniels, did not survive. Ten survivors were named, including John K. Richards and Nelson H. Cates. First snow storm grips Canton on Saturday

Weather observer Meyer reported eight inches of snow in Canton and across the state. Trains ran about usual by noon while coal demand surged as country mines blocked wagons. Snow sweepers and workers kept lines and tracks clear, though rural travel nearly halted and cars stalled in town.
