Dan Barrett a Massillon taxi driver is held at the city jail on a reckless driving charge after his car struck and killed 72 year old Jack Adelson at 6th street and Cherry NE. Coroner T C McQuate planned manslaughter charges but had not filed them by Saturday. Adelson died at the scene and funeral services were set for Sunday at his home 610 Lawrence Rd NE. He is survived by five daughters Lillian Jacobson Stella Grohs Minnie Winters Eva Porges and May Solomon.
Cleveland Dec 1 Fire Chief George Wallace directing 18 companies at a Bland block fire costing 75000. The 60 years of service weighed on him as more than 75 lodgers in two rooming houses were driven out. Chief Wallace, nearing 81, kept orders brisk while embers and debris rained around him.
Elks announce memorial services in the lodge room on Sunday at 2 30 p m with an oration by Judge Edwin Diehl of Alliance and music by the Elks Cleé Club. All Elks and the public invited.
Robert C Jones 57 former partner of Snavely Jones Undertaking Co died suddenly Saturday at 9 in the public square after a heart attack Officers Mahon and Weigle rendered aid but he died within minutes He had been active Friday aiding his family move from 426 15th St NW to 1708 Vassar St NW He represented Schuman Jones Medical and Surgical Supplies Co of Cleveland and kept an office at home He retired three years ago from the undertaking business He was born in Waynesburg and lived much of his life there He moved to Canton six years ago He belonged to the Masonic Order Knights Templar and Grotto He attended First Presbyterian Church Surviving wife Catherine three children Pauline Charles and Robert all at home One brother Dr Clement Jones Pittsburgh Funeral arrangements not made.

Charles Hoppe, Toledo chauffeur, was electrocuted at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Columbus for the kidnapping, assault, and murder of his seven year old cousin Dorothy Sczelagowsi. The execution followed moments after another inmate, John Rucker, was put to death. Father James O'Brien attended and Hoppe whispered responses during the Litany of the Saints.
The Al Smith Democratic Club in Washington voted to foster a nationwide movement to nominate and elect Alfred E. Smith in 1932. A preamble attacking the Anti-Saloon League and the Ku Klux Klan preceded the resolution.
Chicago December 1 detective Thomas Geary was shot dead in a saloon owned by State Rep. Lawrence C. O'Brien. Bartender Thomas Mullarkey seized a pistol from Patrolman Edward Johnson and killed Geary. The killings follow the murder of Joseph Martino, Sicilian head of a Chicago Heights liquor ring, in a drive against crime and vice. The two deaths dampen reform hopes as police shakeups and raids are planned before new officials take office.
Nearly 1.9 million automobile license plates went on sale in Canton and Ohio Saturday. The initial shipment equals the total sold during 1928. 1929 sales are expected to rise 10 percent for passenger cars and 5 percent for commercial machines.

In a $1,000,000 airmail robbery near Lambert Field two bandits forced driver Harry C Graham and his wife to yield five pouches. The pouches held checks destined for New York banks as collection. Authorities report actual loss will be negligible.
Santa Claus descended from the Puritan blimp at the Canton municipal playground on 6th Street and Schreyer Avenue SW. Thousands of children surged forward as the airship touched ground, and Santa greeted them before touring the city with a brass band and a toy balloon the crowd roared. Pilot Jack Boettner praised a safe landing for the "precious cargo" before Santa headed off in a snow covered sleigh.
