City seeks to force the N O T to vacate about an acre of land near its power plant at Tuscara W and return it for a new park system. City Solicitor Blake mailed a notice ordering vacating by September 5, delaying any suit unless the company complies. Attorney Welty said he has not seen such an order and cannot comment further.
The National Association of Letter Carriers plans a nationwide referendum among its branches to decide if they should affiliate with the American Federation of Labor. President William Kelley supports a special session to discuss the issue and call the referendum, drawing enthusiastic approval from about 800 delegates.

Roy Good, 23, of Oklahoma, riding for the Cincinnati motorcycle team, was probably fatally injured at the Ludlow Lagoon track in Kentucky when his machine struck a railing during a race. The Ludlow track was the site of a deadly accident two weeks earlier.
H F Thompson a conductor on the N O T was arrested in Akron after a chase for embezzling car fares. Otto Freeman of Canton aided in the pursuit but Thompson fled from Douglas office, later nabbed by a motorcycle officer. He carried two diamond rings and 150 dollars.
George Parker a butler in Oyster Bay pleaded guilty to stealing about $5,000 in jewelry from Col. Roosevelts home while the family was away. He admitted pawning items and promised to reveal hiding places but then changed stories. He faces detention at Mineola jail pending October grand jury action.
Service Director Harbert announced a plan to pave Mapleau Dueber and Harrison avenues in Canton with the streets running under railroad tracks. The city will cover half the cost and the railroad half, eliminating dangerous crossings and saving watchman salaries and damage claims.
United Press reports no change was made by the subcommittee on the watch paragraph at the meeting Saturday night. The 30 percent ad valorem rate will become law. Senator James and Senator Thomas announced the decision. Roscoe McCullough of Canton, representing the Dueber-Hampden Co., had urged specific rates but were rejected.
Viola White thirty a dress model died while using a hotel elevator on a Saturday half holiday in the 84 Fifthay building. She was attempting to earn money to support her aged father when she missed her step and was crushed. The elevator boy was arrested.
San Francisco reports a major Customs Service scandal as warrants are issued for nine guards over opium smuggling and conspiracy. Collector J. G. Davis and Surveyor Justus S. Wardell say the ring operated for years with profits over 1 million dollars, involving other insiders and threats of reprisals.
The Stark county liquor licensing board will likely delay work until early next week as Fred Witter and Charles A. Dougherty travel to Columbus for a conference with state officials. They anticipate delays for blanks and setting up headquarters in the courthouse basement once appointed.
About 1200 people joined a Cleveland excursion to Euclid Beach hosted by Dueber-Hampden. Hampden employees dominated events winning most first places including a 123 to 2 baseball victory and a tug of war win. the Grand Army band provided music and a sports program featured Hampden in nearly all top spots.

Helen Goerke two years old of 932 Young Ave NF was in serious condition after sucking poison fly paper from a neighbor's kitchen. Dr Flickinger treated with emetic but prognosis remained doubtful as the child grew worse Friday night and Saturday.
