Jackson California August 28 Forty eight miners are trapped 4500 feet underground in the Argonaut mine as a blaze rages at 3000 feet. Three men escaped through the flames but hope for the others is grave. Rescue possible only via Kennedy Mine wrecking a bulkhead, a lengthy tunnel task.
Doctors across the United States endorse Pie as a breakfast food in the current Medical Review of Reviews. They argue a heavy breakfast is more healthful than a light one citing improved digestion and energy for daily activities.
Massillon officials report six bullet wounds ended the shootout aftermath as slayer suspect Jack Combs died at Massillon City Hospital after a gun battle with Lieut. Migge Plainclothesman Snodgrass and other officers who confronted him during a hold up in Columbia Heights. The coroner opened an inquest into the case.

Columbus, Aug. 28. Exhibitors and state fair officials rushed motor trucks to counter uncertain rail conditions to ensure supplies for today’s opening. Authorities expect a record crowd with Ladies Day drawing thousands of women, and exhibits declared complete. The fair opened officially at 8:30 a.m. with a concert by the Second Regiment band.

Ten men were arrested in Chicago on a rail strike caper linked to Leninist terror. A confessed ringleader named Charles Hazells described plots to wreck the Michigan Central at Gary Indiana and bomb New York Central yards in Elkhart Indiana to scare crews and force a settlement. Several suspects were former New York Central shop workers, with a tacit ring in Michigan Central coordinating the plan.

Lorain, Ohio. August 28. Fred Griwatch, 38, of Cleveland, was killed and Otto Griwatch, William Griwatch, and Harold Friedel were seriously injured when their car hit a pillar under the Nickel Plate railroad overhead crossing west of Lorain early today. Three other occupants escaped with minor injuries.
