General Stark praises local service clubs for aiding summer pleasures and recalls Rotary and Kiwanis efforts. The Stark County Fair returns September 6 to 9 with prize exhibits, freak vegetables, and safety reminders for exhibitors.
Miners plan a peaceful march on the Pomeroy mining district to urge nonunion workers to quit. Oral Daugherty, subdistrict president, says the time is not set and violence is not expected. Families may accompany marchers. several mines operate in the area, with aims to end work there in coming weeks.
Carl Studer, the first convicted in the Don R. Mellett murder investigation, filed for parole. The state Board of Clemency will hear the case October 11. Studer received one to five years for maintaining an establishment of prostitution and was once a partner of Louis Mazer, tied to the murder conspiracy.
Fred Leneau, 37, trapped for over 12 hours at the bottom of a 40 foot shaft near his Auburn, Massachusetts home, directs rescuers with a garden hose and oxygen as fire crews and volunteers dig carefully to free him. W. E. Bigelow of Worcester leads the operation with help from Worcester and Auburn firemen and hundreds of volunteers.

In Indianapolis on August 25 an unlicensed pilot failed to pull out of a tall spin and the airplane crashed. Sergt. Malph A. Gordon of the 113th observation squadron was killed. his passenger Mrs Vivian Jackson died from injuries. Gordon had twice been refused a pilot license.
A slight earthquake was recorded at 4 40 am in Santa Barbara California no damage occurred police and fire crews searched the city reports say the tremor was mild and a few residents left their homes briefly before returning as no further shocks followed there were no seismographic records available for confirmation.
City board of control rejected all bids for paving 25th Street NW amid taxpaying protests and potential legal entanglements.
