The U S department of commerce estimates 1926 world trade will reach 9 billion dollars with exports and imports each near 4.5 billion. Agriculture and industry push exports in the first seven months totaling about 2.58 billion, while purchases abroad reach 2.64 billion.

The French line steamship Espagne bound from Vera Cruz and Havana to Saint Nazaire struck a rock off Corunna Spain. The wireless message said passengers and crew are not in danger though the incident damaged the ship’s propeller shaft.

In Steubenville on August 26, 194? charges against Mayor John S H Patton and Police Chief Blaine D Carter arise from alleged failure to enforce laws and embezzlement. Judge Jay S Paisley said police proceedings begin September 11 with the mayor’s hearing September 19. ministerial association issued an official statement.

Cincinnati police held 21 year old Thurston Bloomfield 22 year old Jess Earl and 22 year old Kaden Jacey for questioning in the fatal stabbing of George Richards. Richards was stabbed during a Tuesday night street fight sparked by youths taunting passing motorists.
Aug 26 Washington reports Lieutenant Cyrus K Bettis injured in a Bellefonte Pennsylvania crash. He is to be transported this afternoon to Walter Reed Hospital by an Army Air Corps plane piloted by Captain Ira Eaker. Physicians say Bettis will live.

The New York Stock Exchange will be closed Saturday September 4 before Labor Day as governors vote to extend the holiday from Friday to Tuesday. Over 500 exchange members petitioned for the extra day off. The New York Cotton Exchange also voted to close the Saturday before Labor Day.
