After a state board with engineer W. R. Pratt waives a public hearing Canton officials plan to start construction within 60 days pending a mandatory order from the board. Harbert said ground breaking could occur this winter with erection beginning in spring.
By unanimous vote the Akron council took over Buchtel College to establish a municipal university. The college and grounds valued at 400000 become city property, to be managed by a trustees board appointed by city officials. An ordinance adds half a mill tax for maintenance. The school will be known as the University of Akron.
Stark county election officials face a dilemma over party affiliation for voters who backed the bull moose ticket in 1912. Secretary Graves declines to rule on whether such voters may participate in republican primaries, leaving judges to decide or appeal to the county board. The board orders judges to convene Monday to appoint presiding officers, with penalties for absence.
Amateur Night at Park Theater features an amateurs contest for prizes with Park office notice by Friday noon. The program promises a big time for everybody with advance ads running on dates 26 27 28.
George Winkler of 326 Dewaltay SW and Clyde Bailey of Meyers lake were charged with trespassing in police court Tuesday morning. Arrested Monday night at the Grand Opera house they went behind the scenes and refused to leave when ordered by manager Smith. Cases continued indefinitely.
A grand and gorgeous fireworks show lit Meyers Lake Park Thursday after a theater performance. Attendees called it the best display ever exhibited in the vicinity. Advertisement notes run for the 26th 27th and 28th.

Newport Aug 26 The Duchess de Chaulnes widow Theodora Shorts of New York reportedly contemplates marriage to Andre de Fouquieres French dandy who has recently returned to Paris from a visit to America where he drew wide social acclaim and lectured on fashion.
President McGilvrey of Kent normal school argues at the teachers institute that ideas drive learning, not behavior. He warns new teachers against talking too much about conduct and stresses simple encouragement and understanding how the mind works. He compares teaching to operating a street car and emphasizes mastery of underlying principles.
Paving work on 3rd street SW resumed after delays caused by a petition waiver from property owners. A waiver lacking signatures was deemed ineffective and halted work until possible protests were heard. Also notes a 10 day old girl, Pauline Tarr, died of inanition with funeral plans to Canal Dover. Adverts and notices follow.
The Daily News weekly publication begins Monday issues featuring Rev Linscott’s questions on the next Sunday lesson. President Wilson agreed to delay his Mexican situation address to Congress until 1 p m tomorrow after a request from special envoy Lind and Mexico City officials. Secretary Tumulty announced the postponement at 11 a m. The dispatch cited a Mexican request to allow Mexico City authorities more time.
Board of Education failed to reach a quorum so coal bids for Canton public schools are opened and filed. The contract will be awarded at the next regular meeting Monday night. Also noted are a Canton woman’s death threat by a horse, a cloverseed harvest in Hancock county, and reminders for July 4 parade participants and Euclid Beach park picnic rides.
City plans fall start on a $50,000 park along West Greek from Tuscara to the south corporation line. American Sheet Tin Plate Co to build a model brick office 89 by 65 feet two stories with basement facing the park. Building to feature artistic design with landscaped grounds to harmonize with park plans. engineering assistants approved to complete detailed plans.
Julian Lonchard aged twenty eight died at a local hospital Tuesday after an operation. Death attributed to pneumonia. He lived at 1007 Lafayette Ave SE and was employed by the Royal Brick Company. Funeral arrangements not yet made.
Canton public school teachers will hold their first meeting of the new term next Friday at 2 p.m. They will meet their superiors and become acquainted with the new instructors. The trustees of the teachers pension fund may meet then and organize.
Probate Judge Krichbaum leaves on Tuesday for a two week plus tour to inspect jails and detention facilities in other cities. He funds the trip from vacation time to seek ideas for a county jail project. Petitions for a county bond issue to build a new jail circulate after his return, with organizers counting on hundreds of signatures. Cincinnati Superior Judge Spiegel resigns to campaign for mayor. Mrs. Anna Kramer, 55, cut the end of her nose after falling into a glass pane.
County Treasurer Ake raises whether county license boards can oust saloon operators before tax deposits run out under the new liquor law. He cites eight saloonkeepers paid only up to May end. the license commission seeks county guidance on how to proceed.
Friday notices announce unpaid water bills may be shut off on September 1. An advertisement lists prices 25 31 for adults and 50 for children. B & O trains depart at 6:00 and 6:30 a.m. Committees are advised in ads 24 26 26 27 28 29.
