American Protective officers raided the dance at Mevers Lake Park late Saturday night. More than 200 youths were detained for questioning and asked to recount activities before officers moved them to the county building for further examination.
Washington reports a strong push among American officers to carry the war directly into Germany, aiming for a rapid, large scale victory. General March testifies that victory could come in 1919 if overseas troops reach four million by June, noting over 1.5 million sent so far. Prisoners and battlefield feats are cited as proof of American prowess.

The north board listed 93 and the south 87 men, slightly under the 200 estimate, with Jewish youths absent due to a religious holiday. Hebrews of draft age will register Monday following national practice. The registration also combined filing questionnaires and examination dates.

London reports Allied air forces claim 328 German planes destroyed or brought down in two weeks, with 594 tons of bombs dropped on enemy targets. The update notes night operations with no Allied losses and several balloons shot down.
In Rome on August 24 an Austrian airman dropped a bomb within a yard of Captain Gabriele D Annunzio s sleeping quarters. D Annunzio retaliated by flying to Pola across the Adriatic and bombing the arsenal before returning unharmed.

French progress between the Ailette and Aisne is also noted with 100 prisoners taken south of Coucy-Le-Chateau and American forces reaching the Soissons Rheims road near Fismes.
British and French forces push toward Bapaume Noyon Coucy Le Chateau Chaulnes and Roye as fronts widen from Arras to Chauny. A major artillery battle rages between Chaulnes and Neyon with pockets forming along the Somme and Oise Ailette confluence as both sides press for a breakthrough.
