George W. Shaw of Canton and Mary Anderson of Piqua were jailed in Sidney Ohio on charges tied to the kidnapping and robbery of Shelby County Treasurer Fred Berry. The pair were captured in Hebron by Springfield detectives and a Hebron marshal after a long pursuit and were later moved to Newark then Sidney. Berry said he was kidnapped on July 20 and forced to surrender $37,000 in cash and checks. The Anderson woman admitted being with Shaw and said he forced her to stay with him. Only $41 was recovered.
Off Ambrose lightship a submarine disturbance rocked the French liner France en route to New York. The vessel rolled like a cradle for three minutes bruising passengers and throwing some to the deck. Tennis ace Jean Beorotra was knocked down. Captain Marius Aubert reassured travelers. motion ceased after the ship was shifted.

County Commissioner A. Fromm appointed to general committee promoting a federal survey of highways in northeastern Ohio. He plans to attend a Cleveland meeting with Thomas H. McDonald, chief of the Bureau of Roads. The panel will survey traffic and road conditions in Cuyahoga Stark and nearby counties as the first step toward a uniform improvement program.
Formal request for a ruling on whether State Senator Hallman of Cincinnati can collect a fee of 1,230 for obtaining an appropriation of 6,509 for Clarence M. Waddell of Highland will go to Attorney General Edward C. Turner after Gov. Denehey returns next week. Hallman refused to disclose his version of the fee to anyone but the governor, who is ill at his summer cottage and has asked Mecketroth to confer with Hallman.

Paris sees the heaviest unrest since 1920 as 5,000 troops guard the American embassy amid demonstrations. Three republican guards stabbed, 48 policemen wounded, hundreds harmed, and 250 arrested as boycotts against the American Legion spread from Paris to the provinces.
Honolulu reports that green flares sighted on Mauna Kea were seen as a gasoline lantern used by a ranchman. Army planes return from Hawaii to say the flares were tests. Navy ships and aircraft conduct a wide search for Mildred Doran and six other Dole flyers with no clues found.

He awaits division of a 27 609 dollar reward fund and has not filed for his share though First Trust and Savings Bank is collecting. Prosecutor Henry W. Harter Jr. offers to help prepare his application.
President Coolidge explored Yellowstone Lake for cut-throat trout with a strong fishing pole. He traveled from Old Faithful camp to Peale Island by motor boat and earlier hooked twelve mountain trout in Fire Hole River, near Old Faithful.
Monroe Michigan August 24 Circuit Judge George W Sample announced a one man grand jury probe into crime conditions and public a petition urging Governor Fred W Green to remove Sheriff Jos Kinsey and Justice Fred Schoepfer. Kinsey faces alleged neglect of duty and misdemeanors while Schoepfer is accused of attempting to bribe a state trooper for information on state police activities. Hearing scheduled for September 11.
Berlin August 24 Mayor James J Walker faced a small group of Bacco-Vanzetti sympathizers who hissed as he entered city hall. He responded by shouting Helly beys drawing a retrade from the crowd.
Judge A T Snyder in municipal court dismissed charges against William J Thoma and William Sultz as no probable cause was found. The decision cited lack of active participation in making liquor and absence of proof of contract or share in profits. Scavellis Mastrona and Susi freed on bail for later trial.
In Lorain Ohio Rev James Habig secretary to the Franciscan order announces that Sisters of Humility of Mary Villa Marie Loweville will take over St Josephs hospital from the Franciscan Sisters who founded it 25 years ago The exact transfer date has not been set and Rev Joseph Schremba bishop of Cleveland confirms the move with the Toledo diocese recalling the Franciscans.
