Mrs. Edward F. E. Bender, widow of 58 year old Edward F. E. Bender, was traced to York Pennsylvania on Wednesday and is expected in Canton that night for funeral arrangements. Bender died suddenly Monday in Canada while on a fishing trip. his body was brought to Cleveland and then Canton. He headed Bender restaurants, was a George D. Harter bank director, and a former theater magnate. The widow had been touring the east with friends and efforts to locate her had failed until late Wednesday morning.

Rev Charles E Manchester veteran Methodist minister and former pastor of William McKinleys church in Canton died at his home 1707 Woodland NW Tuesday at 3 50 pm after several months illness. He was 85. Funeral services were set for Friday afternoon at First Methodist Episcopal Church with Canton Stark County Ministerial Association in charge. Burial planned at Westlawn Cemetery. Known for open mindedness and non sectarian views despite Methodist affiliation.

Boy Drowns in Turkeyfoot Lake
Massillon Aug 21 Richard Elliott 16 son of Mr and Mrs John Elliott of 175th St NE drowned last night at Castner’s Landing Turkeyfoot Lake while canoeing with his brother William 22 and two younger boys ages 4 and 5. The four capsized in 40 feet of water and William swam ashore with the youngsters but exhaustion prevented him from rescuing Richard who remained with the canoe. Richard’s body had not been recovered by late morning.

Driver Held After Wreck Near Wadsworth
Ward Raser of Wadsworth was arrested Tuesday night after a four car wreck on North Industry Road that involved Howard Bails of Mineral City and five of his relatives. Raser drove a large truck pulling a 45 foot threshing machine that blocked much of the highway and had no tail light, causing Bails to veer into a ditch to avoid collision. No injuries were reported.

Four Held in Auto Thefts by City Court
Four boys were sentenced in municipal court after Tuesday night arrests by Detective Beatty and Patrolman Clark over several automobile thefts. Kenneth King, 20, admitted stealing a car and was bound over to the grand jury for grand larceny. Charles Foss, 17, was held on a suspicion charge and sent to juvenile court. Ellsworth Jewell, 15, and Theodore Nowak, 12, were fined 25 dollars, costs, and sent to the workhouse for days on suspicion charges.

Veteran Canton minister Dr Manchester dies remembered in service
Dr Manchester born Colebrook River Connecticut Sept 30 1844 moved to Wellington Ohio with mother and stepfather. He enlisted 1861 in Company D 23d Ohio Infantry serving 38 months. After retiring 17 years ago he filled pulpit vacancies in and beyond Canton until unable physically. He was the oldest minister in Canton aside from Rev Boyer and his war career remained a standout memory.
