District Attorney to Lead Canton Mellett Murder Probe

United States District Attorney A. E. Bernsteen says he is willing to go to Canton to personally oversee the Don R. Mellett murder investigation. He disclosed on the eve of a three week fishing trip in Canada that Canton residents have urged him to assume full charge of the case.

Suspect Story Checked By Canton Police

Chief of Police John K. Irvin of Shaker Heights and J. W. Dick checked the tale of a man held on suspicion of stealing a gun from Dick’s automobile. The prisoner admits possessing a gun but denies theft. He claims arrest in Canton for carrying concealed weapons last Saturday night, with no record of such an arrest found.

In Juarez and across the border at Columbus New Mexico three members of Mexico’s national chamber of deputies were killed in a pistol battle on Francisco Madero Street amid a fierce political quarrel.
