Cleveland reports that a confession in the Don R. Mellett case could come by 1 30 pm as Louis Mazer Canton jungle chief faces new charges. Investigators expect testimony that Mazer sought funds to kill Mellett and that Canton group officials funded the plot.
The Ohio district of the United Mine Workers rejected a proposal by the Ohio Coal Operators Association to form a separate wage scale for Ohio miners. Lee Hall said the Jacksonville 1924 contract terms, now under renewal next March, would not be altered, as operators seek a new scale despite mine shutdowns and competition concerns with West Virginia.
District Attorney A. E. Bernsteen and Attorney Joseph R. Roach grilled Louis E. Mazer in a first degree murder case tied to Don R. Mellett. A tornado near Wilson Arkansas last night killed five African Americans and injured 12 others. It struck isolated plantations, demolished houses, and caused about 20 000 dollars in farm building damage. Wires were heavily damaged. no town was hit.

Mrs Emma Schellhase 68 of 1014 9th St NE suffered serious injuries when the auto she rode in skidded and collided with a Wooster Dalton bus. Two other passengers escaped serious injury and she was taken to Aultman hospital where doctors said the full extent of injuries was unknown.

An airliner traveling from France to England crashed between Ashford and Wolkestone, killing two passengers and injuring 11. Authorities report the incident occurred near London on August 18.
