Evelyn Wolf and Bernice Armitage, McKinley High School seniors, have appeared together in recitals since Wolf’s graduation this June and were named musical representatives for the Mansfield convention. Wolf, a soprano, will sing on Tuesday night with Armitage accompanying on piano. both are noted for early achievements in local theatre and piano proficiency.

Jefferson county Democrats nominated Joseph B. Francis of Smithfield for commissioner and his son Marshall Francis, a Steubenville attorney, for county prosecuting attorney at recent primaries. The elder Francis is a brother of ex congressman W.4 Francis of Martins Ferry. Advisements follow for gas ranges and kryptok lenses at local stores.
The Elks invite families to a Wednesday picnic with afternoon amusements and a big fireworks display in the evening. Elks and families only. The Players Club of the First Christian Church presents Three One-Act plays at the church Tuesday Aug. 16 at 8:15 p.m.
J B Young state roads maintenance chief announces a total ban on advertising signs on state highways. All political cards and signs must be removed from poles and trees, with enforcement possible for violators. County officials plan a similar order for non state roads.
In Sandusky Ohio on Aug 15 Henry Pressler a guard in the New York Central yards was shot in the hand by an unknown man who fired point blank and fled. Police search for the attacker as the strike situation grows tense and workers are urged to attend a mass meeting to protest guarding duties with a strike call anticipated.

Ernest C. Morse E M Davis and A W Phillips of New York were arraigned in criminal court on charges of conspiring to defraud the government over the sale of the Old Hickory powder plant near Nashville Tennessee. Morse a former director of sales for the war department was released on a $5000 bond.

Anthony Pickelman aged 64, a Bellevue, Kentucky resident and Cincinnati worker, collapsed and died while crossing the bridge home after a day’s shift. Coroner reports heart disease as the cause of death.

Stefan Alley, an inmate wounded by Detective Fromm during a burglary arrest, tunneled through an 18 inch brick wall using a kitchen spoon. He escaped from the Stark County workhouse ward where he was recovering, and guards tracked him until Tuesday afternoon.

Charles Henry Irwin twenty of 1718 Cleveland avenue Northwest died suddenly in Milwaukee while visiting relatives. He was in poor health recently and grew up mainly in Canton after graduating from Bellefonte Academy. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs C A Irwin and siblings Jay and Elizabeth. Body to be brought to Canton Wednesday for funeral Thursday at home at 10 a.m. with burial in West Lawn Cemetery.

The ex service men and women's non partisan league listed 640 in costs. Hamilton G DeWeese of Columbus, defeated Democrat candidate for state treasurer, spent 700. Simpson Methodist church filed in common pleas court Tuesday for authority to borrow 35000 to buy a narrow strip of land adjoining the church and to improve church property. Floyd and Yutzey are attorneys for the church.
Charleston August 15 W V Bell of Roane County appears likely to lead the Democratic nomination for supreme court judge as the state convention opens at 2 PM. He carries the endorsement of Mason, Roane, and Jackson delegates. Other candidates are Harry M Byrer of Martinsburg and Ed G Smith of Clarksburg.
