In Columbus today voters weigh a school bond plan to raise funds for new buildings and a 2 mill levy to increase salaries for guards and staff. Early returns show strong interest, with a possible large turnout as citizens decide whether to authorize up to a million dollars for school construction.
Voters in several Ohio cities face bond issues totaling about 8 million for school buildings and equipment with 12 million for roads sewers and local improvements. A two mill tax levy supports schools while a franchise vote seeks higher passenger fares for the Columbus City Company. Large cities Cleveland Cincinnati Toledo and many smaller cities also vote on bond issues and city offices.
Monday night a petition for a 25 percent salary increase for firemen was approved to take effect January 1. The measure, signed by most police and safety officials, was referred back for review but likely to return. Activists say the rise mirrors a previous grant and reflects cost of living pressures.

W. T. Kirk introduces a resolution to extend franchise fare provisions to the newly fixed city limits. The plan aims to force the N O T to charge five cents inside Canton while some lines still show ten cents. The council unanimously adopted the measure and sent it to City Solicitor Fisher for investigation. Stark Electric is excluded due to no internal fare clause. General Manager Mowrey ordered repairs to the right of way and cross overs after a council conference.

Dr. John A. Kappelman of Chicago was chosen Canton Illinois health officer at a Monday board meeting after six applicants underwent a verbal civil service exam. He will earn 3300 a year and heads the new Hughes health act driven department.

Three men were killed when Roy Wilson 35 his father Andrew 65 and Clifford Hindson 13 riding in a car were struck by a Stark Electric eastbound streetcar at Stop 12 on the Louisville road. The car and occupants were hurled fifty feet. Wilson's skull and his father's neck were fractured while Clifford also suffered a broken neck. The victims died en route to Mercy hospital. The Wilsons had come from Peoria Illinois to visit Canton. The body will be sent to Peoria for burial.
