Reports from cities say 58 dead and 135 injured in weekend auto crashes. Five killed at McGonigle Station near Hamilton when a car hit a train. a bride and groom among the dead. Alvin Rush and others die in Hudson Lake grade crossing crash. a child injured.
The Interstate Commerce Commission criticized railroads for repairing locomotives in outside shops during 1920. Seven large systems contracted work or bought parts at costs higher than their own shop production, partly due to inadequate facilities.
Albert Abaffy filed a $15,000 damages suit against Dr. Warren Unger for injuries from a May 12 Alliance auto crash. Abaffy says he was parked beside his truck when Unger’s car sideswiped him, breaking his shoulder blade. Ruffalo Drake and Wall represent Abaffy.
Daniel Flory sues in common pleas court seeking to block N O T from building a power line across his Plain City property. He alleges the project would destroy a large shade tree. Attorney for Flory is John W Burris.
Police pursue multiple clues in the murder of 62 year old Edwin Vetter found beaten to death with an iron bar in bushes along a road east of Wooster. Authorities suspect robbery as the motive.
A divorce was granted in the Seine tribunal to Mrs. James Harrington, an American woman born Dorothy Matthews who married in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 12, 1915. The case details the dissolution of the marriage and the parties involved.
In Cleveland on Aug 11 a Hungarian Singing Society picnic drew 200 attendees. Justice Philip Bartell was knocked down by a mob at Lee's Grove as he tried to disperse the crowd. He returned with police to arrest 16 Hungarian members for assault with intent to kill and riotous assemblage.
Nine were killed and five injured in a Colorado cyclone that struck Thurman and nearby areas Sunday. The fatalities occurred as residents, seated at a dining table, had no chance to escape before their house was demolished.
Frank Meadows, 32, lay dying in Marion City hospital after Kenneth Brown, 27, shot him three times during a quarrel over a ball game near Moral, 12 miles north of Marion. Brown is in Marion County jail, no charges yet. Meadows, father of four, had little chance of recovery. Brown, who claimed no recollection, was drinking hootch with both men.
Detroit August 11. Joseph Yergens 60 and his sister Theresa 55 were found murdered in their grocery store after a milkman discovered the bodies early today. Both victims were struck with a baseball bat wrapped in paper. Miss Yergens was assaulted and her clothes ripped from her body. Two Black men seen in the store are suspected.
London Aug 11 Lilan Harrison, Argentine champion girl swimmer, began from Gris-Nez toward the English channel but sustained a minor leg injury and quit at 11 o clock. She was seven miles from shore and plans to resume the attempt.
Mary Gulley, 23, of Lawson Missouri, left a note to her mother before swallowing poison and dying early today in Kansas City. She expressed a desire to be cremated and have her ashes scattered, and relatives report no known motive for the act.
Aug 11 reports Patrolman Herbert Hagberg chasing a mad dog after firing six shots and missing. The dog stopped suddenly and Hagberg fell onto it, death instantaneous.
Premier Herriot proposed that Franco-Belgian forces evacuate the Ruhr within 11 months after the Dawes plan takes effect, with Germany meeting obligations. Germany urged six months. Talks continued as delegates aimed for a final accord by Friday, amid broader reparations and League questions.
Ninety workers at the Iriyama coal mine in Tokio are buried after an explosion in Pit No. 5 on the 2400 yard level. Seventy seven bodies have been recovered, mangled beyond recognition, with rescuers still at work.
The body of a young, well dressed woman was found in woods near Benton Harbor, Michigan, early today. Sheriff Bridgeman reported she had been shot to death and described a bracelet engraved with the letter C as the only clue to her identity. A bandit gang terrorizing the area was broken up after the weekend killings of William Lewis aged 48 from Miamisburg Ohio and Marion Hubbard aged 26 from Gas City Indiana. They were shot by Leroy Schontz after attempting to rob his grocery store. guard Paul Royal assisted. Hubbard and Lewis had earlier shot Jessie Nelson on June 14, who died seven weeks later. Lewis left four children.
Galveston Texas August 11 Hiram W Evans imperial wizard of the Ku Klux Klan issued a statement as he sailed for Key West Florida calling the appeal by dissatisfied political leaders to undermine public confidence in government the most pernicious thing in American politics He said the Klan seeks a national identity to rival Britain or France and spoke without local Klansmen approval.
In Cleveland on August 11 three masked men stopped a couple returning from an automobile ride. They robbed William Weatley of 25 dollars and abducted Miss Thelma Peepers, 18, taking her into a wood before one assailant left her on a street corner with orders not to alarm anyone. The girl was found hours later by police on the west side.
Cleveland police report Max Waenglek, awaiting an 18 month term for carrying concealed weapons, hanged himself in his prison cell after learning his sweetheart had married another. The incident occurred last night as the inmate faced imprisonment.
A nine year old Canton girl was bitten by a dog at Lemons Park Indiana Lake Mich on Aug 7. Doctors in Ann Arbor reported the dog showed rabies and the child must receive Pasteur treatment immediately to save her life. Parents urged to contact Dr Frank B Coller of Vicksburg Mich or notify the Daily News with any information on the family’s whereabouts.
Dayton reports Harold Kilmer husband of Mildred Kilmer died by suicide after his wife died from veronal overdose. Kilmer hanged himself with a roller towel in a washroom at the state hospital, found about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
City policeman W. F. Hodges and an unidentified Black man were killed in a triangular pistol battle on Savannah streets. Hodges had arrested two Black suspects and called for a patrol car before the shootout. the two prisoners were found dead side by side and a third Black man lay dying nearby.
All city and county offices will be closed Tuesday for the legal holiday of the primary election. Banks will observe a half holiday, closing at noon.
Fred Brazelton aged 34 was held today in connection with the shooting of Lawrence Bailes 27 and Mrs May Brumfield Hinman 21 in Kansas City Kansas yesterday Both victims were in critical condition Brazelton allegedly shot Bailes after robbing him and shot Mrs Hinman who resisted during the car ride turnoff.
William Lynch an 18 year old was arrested for vagrancy in New York on August 11. He said he was busy explaining he was not his twin brother and had no time to go to work.
In Philadelphia on Sunday two husbands killed their wives. Edward Bubb 88, a Civil War veteran, shot his 87 year old wife Bridget and then killed himself after their 67 year marriage amid cancer suffering. Alexander Oberton 36 shot his wife Julia mother of six after a quarrel over unemployment.
The Massillon Foundry and Machine Co. obtained a temporary restraining order against the county commissioner to stop paving Oberlin road and Duncan street in Columbia Heights. Elmer Vogt Paving Co. is a defendant in the suit. The plaintive alleges a three foot grade change will damage its property. Perry A. Kuhn represents the plaintiff.
Aug 11. Thomas Spears a church minister near Rutland was jailed on charges of keeping children up late due to late services. A state inspector then ordered the church structure closed for being unsafe for public gatherings.
Joseph Garner was robbed by two highwaymen who took his watch and valuables and promised to mail the pawn ticket.
Charles Lewis of Walnut Avenue Northeast waived preliminary hearing on grand larceny linked to a cash register theft and was bound over to common pleas court in a $2,500 bail bond.
Clem L. Shaver of West Virginia was elected chairman of the Democratic National Committee by acclamation at Clarksburg. John W. Davis, the Democratic presidential candidate, urged immediate party organization and education for voters as he spoke to the committee and welcomed Shaver to his birth state.
Edward Holden, 96, of Canton, appeals to President Coolidge in Washington on Aug 11 for a government loan to Germany to settle reparations. He proposes a new currency with aluminum coins replacing gold and silver. Holden also works on an autobiography in his own hand.
Tansy Vine a colored resident of Massillon was convicted Monday in criminal court on intoxication and carrying a concealed weapon charges. He was fined $50 and costs after police found him with a loaded revolver Sunday night.
Aug 11. The city solicitor says only the courts can decide an issue from a trio of petitions about the electric company franchise rates. A referendum petition followed by a counter and a third petition has left residents unable to resolve the matter. The solicitor states the courts must decide.
The body of Rosalie Evans a British subject murdered near her Puebla ranch nine days ago will be buried tomorrow in the British cemetery beside her husband. Relatives have just arrived from San Francisco.
Dr Harold Hulbert testified that the Leopold Loeb duo formed a murder combination by their twisted personalities. He said their acts would not have occurred separately. Leopold without Loeb would be harmless and Loeb without Leopold would not have killed.

Athens August 11 a summer student at Ohito university Richard Biehel tz faced a divorce summons for Ficheltz while playing a tennis match on the campus courts. He smiled and continued to the tournament semi finals as his wife resides in Putnamco.
