Relief donations rise for southern Ohio miners

City residents have given 4.50 toward relief for starving miners in southern Ohio. The funds are collected at the relief Station at city hall, overseen by Homer Heingartner, the mayor's clerk.

Health officers arrest two for weeds on land

Health officers arrested Catherine Hayes and Edward Meyer for allowing weeds to grow on their properties. They were arraigned before Judge Quinn in police court and given until Saturday to remove the weeds. Car Fire Halts at Wise Motors Filling Station

An automobile at Wise Motor Car Co on Courtay and 5th Street SW caught fire while being filled with gasoline late Tuesday night. Firefighters responded from central station and quickly extinguished the blaze with only minor damage.

Americans Make 400 Million From European War Profits

The Department of Commerce reports that American farmers grain exporters and millers earned 400 million dollars in profits during the first year of the European war. Southern cotton growers and shippers lost about 235 million in the same period.

Rotary Club Canton and Akron Hold Springfield Lake Outing

About 200 Rotary members and families from Canton joined Akron at Springfield Lake for an afternoon of sports including a tug of war and a baseball game. Most traveled by car or interurban cars. Dinner was served at 6:30 in the hotel.

Three Routes Proposed for Car Line Extensions

United Steel Co officials propose three extensions to tap the northeast manufacturing district and serve new mills. Potential routes include extending Winfield Way northeast past General Stamping Co to a county line road crossing the Pennsylvania railroad, and two Tuscarawas Street extensions to Georgetowa Road then Henrietteau and northward to Sth Street NE, or to Belden Avenue and north to Sth Street NE then east. Civil Service Exams Open for 1000 Jobs September First

More than a thousand appointive posts with salaries from 300 dollars monthly downward will open to applicants when the new civil service law takes effect about September 1.
