Plane Bombs U-Boat Sinkings Reported By Officers

An American battleplane convoying a liner from a French port bombed and sank a large German submarine. The U boat attacked the steamer despite a destroyer and battleplane escort, firing a torpedo that missed near the liner. One plane then released a direct hit.

Walter L. Sauvageet of 1237 Oxford Ave NW, a Central Power Co. employee, passed a perfect physical and claimed no exemption. He is not married, born in America with French parents, and held number 258 in the first selective draft. Sauvageet was the first man examined by the local board and expressed eagerness to serve France and the United States together.
