No warrant though man is dying in street incident

Stanton Held, 54, of 1114 Fourth SW, lies dying from a stab wound after a quarrel with a fellow worker identified as Lee. Police have not arrested anyone. Held’s condition is listed as doubtful, with Dr. Reed attending and stating the wound may have been accidental.

Burglar Gets Easy Sentence in Massillon Case

Marty Steele of Massillon was caught burglarizing the home of dairyman J. B. Barkey on the Falroard Friday morning. Police Judge Quinn sentenced him Saturday to 80 days in the workhouse and fined $200 and costs, with larceny as a minor charge and no penitentiary intent.

Republicans Plan Dark Horse Candidate in County Race

County Republican leaders seek a fifth candidate to challenge four party nominees. A conference at County Chairman Niles Sponseller's office discussed trotting out the dark horse around 7pm to file petitions before midnight. Massillon Rolling Mill reorganized with Canton directors

The Massillon Rolling Mill, recently bought by Canton and Bellaire enamel plants, reorganized Friday night. Pred Snyder of Massillon was placed at the head, with R E Bebb and Joseph Immler elected to the board, expanding it to seven. The mill, suspended for weeks, was to resume full operation next Wednesday under W H Davey as general manager.

Local convict escapes from pen with fellow inmate

Miners Entombed After Twin Gas Explosions at Tower City

Son coaxed mother to river death in Ohio

Mrs I setta Hunker of 1619 Houselay visited relatives in Painesville Ohio with her two younger sons La Roy and Martin. She consented to swim in the Grand river despite fear of water and drowned when she stepped into a deep hole. Rescuers pulled her body from the river after hours of search. She leaves three sons Leroy Martin and Herbert and a daughter Mrs H Niet along with three sisters and five brothers. Funeral arrangements pending.

Free tuberculosis hospital rises for five counties near Springfield lake

Foundations for a five-county tuberculosis hospital at Springfield lake were completed and a portion of the main building is up. The facility, costing about 112,600 dollars, aims to house the five counties Argent tubercular patients and should be occupancy ready by late January with completion and bonding work to finish by April 1. The project involves Stark, Columbiana, Mahoning, Portage, and Summit counties, with total county contributions around 121,000 dollars.
