The Commerce Department said America's invisible imports in 1923 included smuggled liquor valued at 30 million dollars. It noted a 1928 rise in imported liquor and a strong gross favorable trade balance, suggesting the U.S. would increasingly finance foreign enterprise.
Miss De Both a Chicago home economics expert arrives in Canton to lead the Daily News Home Service school in the city auditorium. Volunteers and supplies fill the model kitchen as Miss Jessie De Both set to demonstrate scientific cookery for four days, following weeks of preparation by Mrs. E. M. Forbes.
Police Chief S A Lengel led a weekend crackdown with a blotter showing a raid on a disorderly house yielding three arrests and three other raids where contraband liquor was seized. About 12 people were jailed on intoxication and disorderly conduct charges. Acting Mayor Charles M Ball praised the renewed police leadership.
Berlin reports state that the national Congress of the German Communist Party met somewhere in Wursttem burg on Sunday. Members were tight lipped as many are sought by police, making the gathering a mobile, elusive body. Clara Zetkin reportedly sent Moscow a protest letter.
Common pleas judges disposed of more than four cases daily and cut the docket by 61. During March 214 new cases were filed and 275 were disposed of, including six criminal cases. Since year start the docket has been reduced by about 180 cases.
In Cleveland on April 7 a man identified as Michael Cordina died after his car pinned him when the steering gear broke. Anna Ware, 57, was struck by another auto while crossing a street and died. Four others injured in separate accidents over the weekend.

Columbus April 7 Members of the city council considered allowing churches to run small gambling schemes at fairs and church events but faced opposition. Rev R T Stimmer of Glenwood M E church argues any church lottery or chance-related gambling conflicts with core church principles. The proposed ordinance to override anti gambling laws for church lotteries drew skepticism.
Wallace Hawkins alias Raymond Turner died from wounds after being wounded during a pursuit for stealing a car with two companions in Weveland. Lawrence Price, 32, was arrested on a charge of suspicion and a blood transfusion attempt was made to save Hawkins.
A coal mine operated for 10 years by A I Sonnhalter Coal Co on Market Av is sealed and its 120 acres mined coal valued over 3 million dollars will be closed. The North Market Ave Heights Co plans a 160 acre residential development bounded by Market Ave Extension Oakwood Rd Dunav and Frazer Ave, with sale soon.
Washington April 7 President Coolidge commuted the jail terms of Dr Edward A Rumley Walter Kaufman and Norvin Lindheim from longer sentences to one month each for their role under the wartime trading with the enemy statute tied to the purchase of the New York Evening Mail during World War I.
Washington dispatch reports Gov. Al Smith defeats William G. McAdoo in Wisconsin for delegates, with McAdoo's camp blaming Senator La Follette for the win. McAdoo supporters say railroad workers shifted to La Follette driven primaries, claiming potential delegates range from five to twelve of twenty six.
Discussions opened Monday in Akron between platform workers and Northern Ohio Traction lines officials over a new wage agreement to replace the one due May 1. Representatives of the workers union and traction officials began parley on a new wage scale and working agreement for car men of the Northern Ohio Traction and Light company in Akron. Individual members expect a 12 cent an hour increase, seeking a rise from the present 48 50 and 52 cent scale to higher pay. The meeting started without the usual letter exchange.

April 7 Major Frederick Martin leader of the round the world flight had his plane wrecked at Prince Rupert British Columbia during a snow storm. The damaged craft had both wings broken and the aircraft was smashed but the message says the other three planes may continue the journey leaving the crippled leader behind.
Johnstown detective Grose files concealed weapons rioting and murder charges against six Lilly Klansmen held since Saturday after a riot that killed two townspeople and wounded many, including a nine year old. State police patrol Lilly streets as arrests continue in neighboring Ebensburg and Johnstown.

Mrs Torney Hill and four family members perished when a kerosene explosion ignited a blaze at Torney Hill home in South Hillsboro early today. Torney Hill, badly burned, remained in critical condition at Hitsmote hospital as firefighters battled the large fire that destroyed the dwelling.
