Pineville Kentucky April 1 eight bodies of miners trapped by a blast at Pioneer Coal Co mine at Kettle Island near Herz were recovered six of the sixteen missing. Rescue teams faced poison gas and earlier efforts were halted as families waited for word.

She had confessed to luring Nancy Bowen to murder Henri Marchand by chloroform and faced possible electrocution or prolonged illness as outcomes.
Capt. Lew A. Yancey and two companions launched a nonstop flight to Bermuda in a Stinson monoplane from College Point L. I. The trio included navigator Yancey pilot William H. Alexander and radio engineer Zeb Bouck. The 730 mile leg faced favorable weather and was prepared secretly.

Tokyo reported the Japanese government ordered its London delegation to accept the American Japanese naval tonnage accord with minor reservations. Chief delegate Reijiro Wakatouki would be informed that the Reed Matsudaira talks reached agreement acceptable with slight changes. The cabinet decision was relayed to Emperor Hirohito.
London reports that Tokyo government accepts U S terms with slight reservations, potentially enabling a three power agreement. France and Britain seek a formula to guarantee security without obliging Britain to engage in further military action to defend its ally.
Donald, 42, Orrville railroader, held on $10,000 bond in Wayne County jail faces trial May 5 on first degree murder and child stealing charges in the disappearance of Melvin Worst, 4, of Orrville. He was indicted with Charles Hannah on the child stealing count. murder venue may be chosen next week if the murder charge is pursued first.
Three men were arrested in Akron area on accusations of counterfeit currency production. Detectives seized about 80 dollars in counterfeit coins and called in federal agents from Cleveland to locate a third suspect. Authorities described the operation as a local mint turning out spurious coins.
The Stark County board of commissioners faces a quo warranto action challenging Charles A. Fromm’s right to sit on the board. Bert L. Paine of Limaville is named to fill the seat, with Fromm claiming to remain in office pending legal clarification.
