Farm Machinery Commission to Meet at Canora

The provincial royal commission on farm implement sales will hold a public session in Canora on Tuesday evening August 4. Justices Newlands and Lamont and ministers Turgeon, Motherwell, and Maharg will conduct the inquiry. Justice Newlands acts as chairman and presides over sittings as the commission surveys conditions to inform forthcoming legislation.

Exhibition of Tango Dances at Theatre Royal

Harry Barnes and Miss Marion Giles will present the latest dances at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday evening June 16. The Wapella Post notes their recent visit to Wapella featured Tango Maxixe Hesitation Waltzes Castle Walk and other new dances to general approval with no objectionable content. Local dancers quickly adopted the new two and three step waltz and schottische and the dances were deemed suitable for public or private gatherings.

A wedding was solemnized at the home of the bride’s parents Mr and Mrs P J McArton in Jesstown North Dakota on a Wednesday in June. Their daughter Mabel was united in marriage to Edward Harold.

Canora Railway Line Announced for Summer Completion

Announcement confirms steel will be laid this summer for the C N R branch from Canora northward to Sturgis 22 miles away with two stations planned. The route will unlock rich timber fur fish and mineral resources and bolster Canora as a central distributing hub in its northern territory.

June District Court Sittings in Canora Hear 21 Dockets

Waddell Memorial Hospital to Open June 18

The Hugh Waddell Memorial Hospital devoted by Mrs. Waddell will open with a dedication service June 18. The Winnipeg and Canora grants funded a 600 foot square site and facilities including wards for male and female patients, maternity care, private rooms, diet kitchens, a nurse’s room, and staff quarters.

Three Killed in C N R Wreck Near Cote Kamsack Sask

Three men died when CNR Winnipeg east bound express No 2 collided head on with a late freight near Cote station 64 miles east of Kamsack at dawn. Engineer James Arnold of Dauphin stood at his post as the train crashed. the mail clerk John J Faija of Winnipeg and express messenger Ross Donaldson of Norwood were killed. The crash followed mistaken orders and the passenger engine cab was wrecked with wreckage in the freight cars.

A grand picnic is set for Devil's Lake on Monday June 22. Organizer W S Rattray will host rugby and baseball games in shallow water with prizes, plus races. The site offers twelve rooms for rent, tents, lunch, and evening dancing with an electric light plant for illumination. Boats will shuttle guests around the lake.

A June 1 meeting of the Rural Municipality of Keys No 306 had full attendance. Reeve D Rows presided as Clark moved the tax rebate cheque for N W 44 Sec 11 Tp 32 R 1 W 2nd and carried. Notices will be posted for two weed inspectors by June 30. An amusements committee for all members was approved. Court date for Tax Enforcement Return was requested. Communications from irrigation and public health offices were acknowledged or filed as directed.

Canora Defeats Melville In Wet Saskatchewan League Clash

Canora football team defeated Melville 2 goals to 11 at the Agricultural grounds in a Saskatchewan league fixture. Reynolds and McMillan scored for Canora while Melville’s lone goal came on a corner kick that deflected off the Canora goalkeeper. J. King of Yorkton refereed and postmatch festivities featured the Canora Club at the Oriental Cafe with the Canora band.
