Missing notice describes two colts, one brown mare about two years old with brand on shoulder and a white spot on the forehead. A bid leg is white. The owner asks for return and provides contact as Box 126 in Canova.
The Canada Gazette announces that the government has appointed Sunday next January 2 to be a day of humble prayer and intercession for the Empire and its allies and for those serving, seeking a speedy peace grounded in understanding rather than hatred.
An inventor, W. J. Dela Mare of Roblin Manitoba, visits after returning from Des Moines Iowa claiming a perfected machine will devastate Germany in twenty four hours with twenty units His claim urges swift construction and usage warning of the Kaiser and War Lords need for refuge amid looming world war conclusions.
Under the Land Titles Act a mortgage sale of a valuable farm property will occur with terms to be made known at sale. For further conditions contact W Cumming, Solicitor, Canora Sask.
On December 27 Steven Lewicki, secretary, led a Ruthenian meeting in his district to explain Canada’s war effort and urge support. Donations were handed in through J D Robertson MP, with C Gogol Lewicki and B Oleniuk heading the committee. The donations fund the Patriotic Society for soldiers in trenches and their families.
A December 22 recruiting meeting at Oddfellows Hall Graham Block drew a large crowd with many ladies present. Mayor Korbin chaired as speakers included returned soldiers Pte Harold Purvis Corp Geo Miller Pte A R Bomford Recruiting Agent Gilbert Canon Cornish and A G Graham. Canon Cornish spoke on supporting those in the trenches for the empire and freedom. The Citizens Band and Mr Weir provided music and songs. Enlistees included James N Simpson Peter P F Williams.
The Soldiers' Aid Commission of Ontario led by Secretary C N Cochrane aims to supplement pensions with monetary grants or free trade training. It mobilizes Ontario manufacturers and seeks broad support to aid returned soldiers, reducing the national tragedy of veterans.
Mise Bennet departs for Elfros after 16 days. Hilton Oxley visits this week. M Porteous away till Monday for Xmas. Mrs Albert Oldroyd and family visit Mr and Mrs Berry. Carofin Xmas Tree featured with Mrs H Reid at the organ. Mathew Oldroyd chaired. Fred Owens violin solo and Fred Berry comic song. A patriotic collection raised 90.35. Santa Brave distributed gifts to children.
Meeting of directors held in the secretary’s office on Monday December 20 1915 with Vice President Barechel presiding. Fuhri Sutherland moves that an application be made to the Department of Interior for two acres at the east half of section 8 township 51 range 30 then ceasing toward Winnipeg.
Miss Jessie Korbin, studying in Winnipeg, arrived home for a visit. Mrs. Peter Douglas and children spent Christmas with her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Reed. Mrs. A M Darrach had a nasty accident causing a facial cut and bruises but is nearly recovered. On a cellar fall from the top step, recovery noted. Local report mentions C N Ry Corvin of the Casadian Bank and four other points for the holiday season.
In Preeceville a crowded council chamber heard the preliminary trial of John Park and Jake Klump charged with stealing two cattle from Mr. Holbrook of Iowa. They were committed to Regina for trial. Park used the alias Geo Thompson and earlier sold cattle to Mr. Upham, who identified him. evidence tied to Holbrook’s cattle was inconclusive. Park is a large local farmer. both men have recent cattle dealings.
Mrs. R. W. Cumming and children are visiting in Regina. Miss Lily Reed spent Christmas with her parents here. Lance Wheeler of Grandview was a business visitor in town today. D. Wedderspoon of Yorkton was a visitor in town during the holidays.
The notice warns to pay 1915 taxes by tomorrow evening to avoid an eight percent penalty on Saturday morning. A new annual tax sale list will be made up in 1916 under the new act. Delinquent property attracts ten percent extra, risking an eighteen percent total within a year.
The Church of England reports Watch Night service to start on New Year’s Eve at 11 p.m. with short intervals and a Special Litany. An Intercessory Service and Sermon follow at 7 20 p.m. on Sunday in St George’s Church. Christmas carols, Sunday School, and Communion services are planned for the coming weeks with new album and gospel stamps available.
