Patriotic Ruthenians Donate to the Patriotic Society

On December 27 Steven Lewicki, secretary, led a Ruthenian meeting in his district to explain Canada’s war effort and urge support. Donations were handed in through J D Robertson MP, with C Gogol Lewicki and B Oleniuk heading the committee. The donations fund the Patriotic Society for soldiers in trenches and their families.

Recruiting Meeting Draws Large Graham Crowd

A December 22 recruiting meeting at Oddfellows Hall Graham Block drew a large crowd with many ladies present. Mayor Korbin chaired as speakers included returned soldiers Pte Harold Purvis Corp Geo Miller Pte A R Bomford Recruiting Agent Gilbert Canon Cornish and A G Graham. Canon Cornish spoke on supporting those in the trenches for the empire and freedom. The Citizens Band and Mr Weir provided music and songs. Enlistees included James N Simpson Peter P F Williams.

Directors Meet of Canora Creamery Co in December 1915

Meeting of directors held in the secretary’s office on Monday December 20 1915 with Vice President Barechel presiding. Fuhri Sutherland moves that an application be made to the Department of Interior for two acres at the east half of section 8 township 51 range 30 then ceasing toward Winnipeg.

Visit Home Returns of Miss Korbin and Christmas in Winnipeg

Miss Jessie Korbin, studying in Winnipeg, arrived home for a visit. Mrs. Peter Douglas and children spent Christmas with her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Reed. Mrs. A M Darrach had a nasty accident causing a facial cut and bruises but is nearly recovered. On a cellar fall from the top step, recovery noted. Local report mentions C N Ry Corvin of the Casadian Bank and four other points for the holiday season.

Cattle Theft Case Brings John Park and Jake Klump to Trial

In Preeceville a crowded council chamber heard the preliminary trial of John Park and Jake Klump charged with stealing two cattle from Mr. Holbrook of Iowa. They were committed to Regina for trial. Park used the alias Geo Thompson and earlier sold cattle to Mr. Upham, who identified him. evidence tied to Holbrook’s cattle was inconclusive. Park is a large local farmer. both men have recent cattle dealings.

The notice warns to pay 1915 taxes by tomorrow evening to avoid an eight percent penalty on Saturday morning. A new annual tax sale list will be made up in 1916 under the new act. Delinquent property attracts ten percent extra, risking an eighteen percent total within a year.
