The Canon City Merchants Association held its second regular monthly dinner at the St. Cloud hotel. Fifty to seventy five members attended despite seventy five covers. speeches covered local advertising and civic topics.
Canon City district reports strawberries nearly sold out with light yields and high prices. Home grown raspberries will arrive next week followed by currants and gooseberries. Raspberry crop looks fairly good while currants and gooseberries yield will be much lower than usual.
Coroner C. H. Whitmore travels to Florence at noon Tuesday to open an inquiry into the death of Lyman Sprague Allen whose body was recovered earlier. Coroner says impaneling a jury was not necessary.
Fred Ramelow of Springfield Illinois was arraigned before Judge Bailey in district court Tuesday and pleaded guilty to larceny of articles from Denver Rio Grande passengers. The judge held case for advisory decision while Ramelow remains jailed. He was previously detained by train officials and shipped to Salida for a preliminary hearing.
Do not miss Canon City’s new City Park along the Denver and Rio Grande tracks from First to Third streets. The park shows what intelligent treatment can do turning a waste into a beautiful, inviting pleasure ground. It features a fine lawn, shrubs, trees, and flower beds and stands as a monument to the Civic Improvement League.
Charles Godley of Beaver Creek removed a padlock from his gate in Florence on Saturday afternoon, citing many fishermen forgot to close it. He says he will give the fishermen another chance.
Canon City residents are urged to buy 600 season tickets at 50 cents each for a July Chautauqua running July 19 to 2Sth. About 300 sold. 200 remain. Merchants’ Association seeks public support to avoid assessments. Tickets available through committees, news offices, Citizens Bank, YMC A rooms, and local businesses.
A warning notes that leaving the gate open risks closing access for summer to fishermen and could let cattle into the alfalfa field, causing loss for Mr Godley and others. It urges responsible closure by those using the area.
Tom Huxley was ordained to the Christian ministry before a council of ministers and church officers at First Baptist Church in Pueblo. The service included an orthodoxy exam, ordination sermon by Rev Wister, and charge by Rev Kistler, with Rev Ripley and Rev Fish assisting. He will preach in Missouri two Sundays each month next year and plans to finish at William Jewel College next year.

Rates are five cents per line per day with a week discount. four days remain. The notice urges boarding houses and locals to place ads for rooms, rentals, sales, labor, and services.
Mayor A H Seely argues advertising is vital for town progress and urges practical steps. He cites water supply health seekers and a Colorado Springs example, endorses concise folders and color printed post cards to attract visitors and residents while warning against exaggeration.
Miss Anna May White of Canon City wed Charles Gilbert of Pueblo in a quiet ceremony at the Methodist parsonage with Rev. A F Chaffee officiating. A reception followed at the bride’s home and a Denver honeymoon trip ensued. They will reside in Pueblo.
A social gathering honor of the Bishop Warren class of the First Methodist Sunday school was held Tuesday night at Prof. and Mrs. L. D. Eichhorn’s residence 832 Harrison avenue. More than fifty guests attended and refreshments were served. The class organized about two years ago and has over forty members with Mrs. Eichhorn as longtime teacher.

Dated June 24 1907 in Canon City Colorado the note commends the association the community schools and libraries the churches and the moral character seen as drivers of growth. Rowcliffe cites integrity resources and publicity as keys to successful community development.
Beginning July first the public library switches to a summer timetable. In July and August it opens at 10:00 a.m. and closes at 8:00 p.m.
Two Mexican convicts Maes No 6278 and Morales No 5775 on the prison rolls fled from the penitentiary farm at Four Mile Creek Thursday night. Warden Cleghorn offers a reward of one hundred dollars for each man. They are believed to have left at an early hour, fled to the Stump ranch, stole clothes, and swapped prison garb. Guards search, no trace found by noon today.
