Big Convention Favors Good Roads in Fremont County

The National Good Roads association held a three quarter day convention at Canon City with Col. W. H. Moore presiding. Speakers praised local leaders and outlined plans for highway improvements, urging science based construction and use of convict labor provisions.

Moonlight Excursion To Royal Gorge Promoted By Recount

The Reconn urges a moonlit special train by the D a R G to Canon City for Royal Gorge viewing August 11. Tickets in advance at 65 cents for adults and 35 cents for children under 12, with a round trip including stops at Hanging Bridges and Parkdale.

Ditch Companies Object To Water Decree Move

Canon City Merchants Association forms a three member committee to represent the group at a Fremont county meeting with ditch companies. They plan to oppose Colorado Fuel and Iron Co bolding a decree to divert 70 cubic feet per second from the Arkansas River for its Pueblo steel plant via the Bessemer canal. The Pueblo county district court hearing is set for the 28th of the month.

What Can You Make On a Canon Fruit Farm

Iron Expert and Hunter Visits Canon

Elmer Davis of Dwight Illinois, a Risdon Iron Works supervisor en route to Seattle to oversee a twelve story steel skeleton, is also a famed hunter. He shared stories of big game in Africa and displayed hunting trophies at his Dwight home, amid Pike and Carson club conservation aims.

Brakeman Callahan Killed Near Parkdale

Brakeman C. H. Callahan of Pueblo died after a D. R. G. freight wreck near Parkdale caused by washed out track from Arkansas River floods. The train left the rails at a curve west of Parkdale, two boxcars overturned, and Callahan, head brakeman, was crushed while attempting to jump. He was unmarried and had long service with the railroad. he was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.

Local merchants urged to stock in demand goods
