Turkish military takes over Ankara and Istanbul at midnight detaining Premier Adnan Menderes and President Celal Bayar. Reported pledges include free elections and a handover to the winner, with a caretaker government forming as martial law looms.
Three Chinese mountaineers Wang Fu Chau Chu Yin Hua and Konbu reached Everest summit on May 25 after starting March 25.
