A day old Rh negative baby in Sydney received a life saving blood transfusion despite objections from the father, a Jehovah’s Witness. The infant had been rushed from Bulli Hospital by ambulance, a trip of a little over an hour.
At Woonona near Wollongong doctors sought consent for a transfusion to a baby. The father Mr Mulder initially refused with a religious adviser present. Health Department officials advised proceeding under a Health Act amendment allowing doctors to override objections to save a life.
Dr Syngman Rhee and his wife disappeared from Seoul on a chartered plane shortly after resigning on April 27 amid the presidential crisis. U S Embassy officials said they carried routine visas and may seek asylum or rest in Honolulu as Acting President Huh Chung requested a visa for Rhee to enter the United States.
