Navy seeks addresses for salvage money owed to former RAN members
The Navy hunts ten former Royal Australian Navy members owed salvage payments for salvaging the Pacific Clipper in 1955. About £5,500 has already been paid to 300 officers and men. The department has asked Commonwealth Police to locate current addresses of the ten sailors, listing partial addresses. Hazardous operations off Australia’s north-west coast enabled Shoalhaven Murchison and Emi to guide the vessel into Darwin Harbour.

Minister Adermann said Britain and Europe see names as geographic and tied to origin. Delegates at the Adelaide conference heard the issue could resurface if Britain joins the common market, with the industry ready to marshal support. Penfold Hyland dismissed wine snobbery while noting Australian wines have won medals abroad.
