ANU to pay 45000 pounds damages in consent settlement
The Australian National University will pay 45000 pounds in damages to laboratory assistant George Lagos who lost his sight in a July explosion at the university. Lagos alleged negligence and sought 100000 pounds, but a out of court settlement was announced. Lagos, 30, from Campbell, was injured when a potassium sodium alloy exploded during filtration of waste into a 600000 pound hemi polar generator used in nuclear research. He and three others were hurt. surgeons later removed both his eyes. The university will continue to employ him if he regains capacity and completes rehabilitation and a vocational course.

Bridge weakened by heavy weekend rain closes diversions

Floods Subside in Nelligen as Roads Stay Blocked
