Subscriptions to the Commonwealth cash loan closed on February 19 at a record 126.6 million pounds, an over-subscription of 66.6 million to the 60 million target. Treasurer Holt announced last night that the previous peace-time record was 90.7 million raised last February.
Subscriptions to the 1962-63 cash loans total £119 million with £80 million from the first internal issue and £39 million from three overseas loans. Domestic and special bond raisings add £23 million, while £66.6 million excess goes to redeem maturing Commonwealth securities. Next steps include handling £240 million maturities and funding the £225 million works and housing programme through bonds and domestic raisings. Conversion offers and new Series H bonds boost proceeds, with £3 million already raised and 1961-62 year beat.

Six people were killed and 20 injured when police clashed with armed strikers at a cement works in Santa Barbara near Medellin Colombia. The deaths included a child and the clash occurred yesterday, according to a British United Press report.
Detectives seek witnesses to a Sunday night safe theft at a converted office on Colter Road near Government House.
