Paris reports that Greece will mobilize twenty classes of troops bringing 400,000 men to the colors. The War Ministry says equipment and munitions are ample. It is unclear if King Constantine will lead. if not, Prince Nicholas may command.
A Walkers Creek Sunday School rally day report notes 3116 Bible chapters read by children in the quarter Nina Andrews led with the most chapters while William E Harper was second At noon dinner was served and the afternoon focused on upbuilding and inspiring talks under superintendent Bro Ank Angell.
The commissioner's body met in a called session Friday and approved the Tax Rolls prepared by Assessor Brock. The rolls are said to reflect care and credit on Brock and his deputies.
Charley Terry of Minerva says his fifteen acres of sweet potatoes yield about 135 bushels per acre and he sells at 1.00 per bushel wholesale in Cameron. He notes discarding small tubers for next year’s seed and believes many farmers could profit similarly, even on sandy land.
The Methodist Missionary Society held a Monday afternoon meeting at the church in a business session. Fifteen ladies attended and the local treasurer reported July to September expenditures totaling 171.75 for the parsonage. Mrs. S. W. Cheeves was elected treasurer for the year. Devo tional exercises were led by Mrs. Charles Price.
A reporter notes a Sunday School leader’s pledge to serve with zeal and dedication teaching the word of God and guiding the lost to Christ. He expresses hope for Heaven’s blessings on the Sunday School.
An optimistic report from the federal advisory council in Washington cites improving national business and rising demand for munitions and food. The South is expected to share in prosperity as cotton values surge to 11 cents per pound, with an estimated crop value near 840 million dollars and a large loan to support agricultural needs.
The Farmers Fireside Bulletin urges farmers to act smartly and hold their cotton to push prices higher, predicting a cotton shortage and a price above growing costs. It warns that outside speculators may profit from unorganized farming and calls for unified action. The note mentions Bob Maseey of Sharp as Cameron visitor.
Dr B A Kirkpatric and wife visited Rockdale with others from Cameron and Tracy. Families and friends attended ice cream socials, dances, and meetings including the Busy Bees club and the Only Workers gathering at Tracy, with extended visits to Cameron, Hereford, and Rockdale noted.
Mrs. Carlton aged 52 died suddenly at the home of her son in law Lee Hux near the S A & P depot after coming from Santa Anna to Cameron. Three typhoid cases in Santa Anna prompted the visit. her grandson Carl Hux died recently at Cameron Sanitarium. Survived by Mrs Roy Carlton Mrs Lee Hux Mrs William Bowen and Mr Walter Carlton among others.
Rev and Mrs C M Carr of Belmena visited Cameron on Saturday. They traveled to meet friends and tour local sites during their Cameron weekend excursion.
A British official communiqué says northwest of Hulluch and east of Loos the offensive continues with heavy enemy losses. The capture totals 53 officers, 2800 men, 18 guns and 32 machine guns, plus unclassified matériel.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Presbyterian church met at Mrs J D Morton's home Monday afternoon. After an hour of sewing, refreshments of iced grape juice and cake were served by Mr John Morton and Miss Maude Morrison, the only juniors in attendance.
