Berlin reports the German Admiralty is certain the Allan Line steamer Hesperian was not torpedoed. All submarines at the time returned to base. a floating mine, not German, is blamed. A mine matching a red green white pattern was driven ashore near Ireland.
A. L. Hinds found his cotton wagon disturbed in his field along Detmold road near Tur Ey Creek bridge. A rubber-tired buggy carried off about four hundred pounds of cotton, with multiple trips suspected. The Thorndale Thorn notes the theft and warns planters to guard their wagons.
A report from the Texas State Board of Health replies to Cameron Mayor E P Lester regarding a water sample. The bacteriologist notes they cannot isolate harmful bacteria and considers the water suitable for drinking purposes.
The W C will unveil the monument of the late Mrs Minnie Elliott at Hill Cemetery next Sunday September 26 at 3 30 p m. All members and friends are invited to attend. The notice expresses anticipation of troubles that may arise from the event.
Thach and Hanna completed the Sheckels bridge over the Little River after storm damage. The firm lifted and reinforced the damaged end, promising durability for severe floods. The six year old Waymon Criswell of Buckholts drowned in a home tank Monday afternoon after disappearing from the house. Edwin Hardy found the boy dead about 200 yards away. The child, playing with his dog, is believed to have fallen into the water. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Will Whitley and Rev. J. W. Campbell with many friends attending.
Tulsa reports old time Indians forecast a severe winter based on signs from nature. Squirrels store nuts, tree bark thickens, and bird migration is underway. Full blood Cherokees in Spavinaw prepare with extra fuel and food. W H Slone notes a smaller cotton crop but strong prices offset losses.
