Highway Report Details Passable Routes and Open Roads

The report notes all highways passable with fair to good conditions. Knights of Pythias 10 Hold Gistrigs Meeting in Cameron

On October 8 the Knights of Pythias in Cameron will host a district meeting led by Deputy Grand Chancellor W. C. Triggs. Lodges from surrounding towns attend. a banquet is planned in the Methodist church basement. Price Cross visits from California, and Giles Arriett and Olive Henderson depart Baylor College for violin study.

Vote Results of Road Bench Election in 1923

The road bench election held on September 25, 1923 yielded a decisive result with the vote nearly six to one in favor. Local officials reported a strong turnout and clear outcome.

Former Fire Chief of Cameron Dies in Goree

Frank Porter, former Fire Chief for Cameron, died at his home in Goree Texas. He was longtime in Cameron business with his father and served the city faithfully as fire chief. Funeral held in Goree Sunday afternoon. Public note of his death sent to Cameron friends. He was son of R 5. Rorter who once owned the block of buildings now held by S W Cheeves store.

Milam County Baptist Association Meets in Fifth Annual Session

The Milam County Baptist Association will hold its Fifth Annual session at Ben Arnold on Wednesday night October 8, 1923. Dr. F. S. Grover of Dallas, Corresponding Secretary of the State Board, will preach the introductory sermon. Missionary L. Springer urges all members to attend and help make the session the best yet.

Eugene Green and Bassett Watson came from Austin Saturday afternoon to spend Sunday with their parents and friends, returning to school Monday morning.

Pioneer J J Clinton Dies At 74 In Cameron Texas

J J Clinton a Texas pioneer aged 74 and longtime Cameron resident died at his home Sunday night at 7 45 He was born in Pickens County Alabama on November 26 1849 came to Texas in 1865 lived at Columbus Burleson County and Chriesman He married Susan Storm in 1875 and had four children two of whom survived The funeral was held in Chriesman with services by Rev Ira Key and Masonic rites He was a respected farmer and member of Caldwell Lodge.

Death of Mrs Jeter’s Mother in St Louis

Word reached Cameron on Wednesday that the mother of Mrs Royal P Jeter has died in St Louis. Mrs Jeter left at once to attend the funeral in St Louis which was to be held there on Friday. Friends in Cameron mourn the loss of Mrs Jeter’s mother.

Yee High school clubs organize for students

Several literary and science clubs are active at Yee High School with female leaders Miss West, Miss Henderson, Miss Hightower, and Miss Moore directing units including a Spanish club and the Lion Tamers science group. Boys form two drill squads, while physical training opens to all students with daily calisthenics and games. The Cameronians debate and the Lions Tamers lead in oratory.

Nighttime break ins target Mohler Bros market and grocery near the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Depot. No clues have been found yet and these are the first burglaries in several months in the area.

Rev Dennis Macune, longtime missionary in Mexico for 15 years, will preach at the Methodist church on Sunday. He is the son of Dr C W Macune who lived in Cameron years ago and was a college mate of Rev LF Rey at Southwestern University.

Partly cloudy to unsettled in Dallas and vicinity with a low near 70. Friday turns partly cloudy to unsettled with a chance of showers. Panhandle and East Texas see showers tonight and Friday with near normal cotton region temperatures. State highs reach 98 at Henrietta and 94 at Abilene while Amarillo tops 62 and Cameron 90. Houston reports 0.02 inches of rain.
