Brenham Jaycees Special Train Boosts Cameron Game

About 600 Yeoman football fans rode the Jaycee Brenham special to the Cameron High School football game. A Thursday downtown rally drew 800 students and boosters to Lawless Green for a bonfire as fans packed trains, buses greeted the event, and proceeds funded Christmas decorations and the Santa Pal project. The train carried 14 passenger cars plus two for band gear and supplies, marking the second Jaycee run of its kind.

Gate Receipts for Cameron Rockdale Game Adjusted

Gate receipts totaled 1982 dollars with 2395 paid admissions for the Cameron Rockdale football game. The Herald corrected last week’s totals. Supt Wiley Loughmiller announced Dr C G Swift is named team physician for the entire season, not just out of town games.

Poage To Address VHS Assembly On Water And Farm Issues

Congressman Bob Poage will address the Yee High School assembly today at the invitation of Principal J R Young. He will discuss legislation from the just concluded congressional session in Washington, with water conservation and farm problems as top points. Poage is touring Central Texas and lives in Waco.

Selective Service Meetings At Yee High School

Two 30 minute sessions for males over 17 will be held at Yee High School on Tuesday at 9 30 and Wednesday at 9 30. The program will cover Selective Service procedures and registrant responsibilities using a poster exhibit. Local officials quote improved awareness and note duty to keep the board informed of address.

Cricket Horde Invades Downtown After Rains

Downtown stores faced another surge of brown crickets after recent rains. Businessmen swept gutters of crickets and city workers collected or sprayed to slow the nightly invasion. Lights were blacked out in parts of the business district to curb the pests.

Funeral services for Frank Benesh 74 were held at St Michael s Catholic Church Burlington. The Rev George Duda officiated as Benesh died suddenly at his Burlington home Thursday afternoon. Mass followed at Nichol son Funeral home Rosebud. He is survived by his wife three sons Edward Pete Benesh Fay Benesh Allen Benesh seven grandchildren and one niece Miss Mary Woodworth. Rainy Cameron Milam County Adds 1455 Bales to Cotton Output

Rains continued Friday in Cameron and Milam County as the late cotton crop neared one third to one half completion. Three Cameron gins reported 1455 bales by last weekend with 600 at Farmer's Gin and 6259 at Planter's Gin and 230 at Weems Gin. Officials noted soil moisture would aid fall planting and livestock prospects, while cotton grades may drop due to moisture content.

Walter Powell 67 Buckholts Funeral Rites Held

Funeral services for Walter Powell age 67 were held Tuesday at Buckholts Baptist Church with Rev. James Henderson officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery Cameron. Powell a lifelong Milam County resident farmed near Buckholts and died Sunday in a Cameron hospital. Surviving are his wife four daughters two sisters two brothers three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Green Funeral Home in charge.

Milam Agent Receives National Distinction for Service

Former Milam County agent J W Stufflebeme Jr now in Washington County is among six Texans honored with the National County Agricultural Agents Association distinguished service awards for 1957. Presentation will be at the association meeting October 13 17 in Boston. Stufflebeme expanded 4H club work and dairy programs, introduced corn hybrids and improved crops, and helped build the Washington County Fair into a top Texas event.

Composite Citizen Of Month Salutes Cameron Saddle Club

The Cameron Saddle Club and its president Colman Duncum are named composite citizen of the month for advancing Heart Texas Trailride in Cameron and building a top Texas quarterhorse show. Duncum led growth from 12 members in 1954 to 108, with club events spanning relays, parades, and annual horse shows, while praising Mary Belle Batte and others for club success.
