The Herald plant will be closed Christmas Day and the following day as in years past. The Daily Herald will publish Thursday and resume Monday. After printing the annual Christmas edition the employees will receive two days rest, and the publisher thanks business men and the public for cooperation.
Frank Torno, sensational sophomore backfield star of the 1942 Yeomen, was elected to the all conference team by coaches. Six Taylor Ducks made the all conference squad. Torno secured the berth with ample votes, and George Michalka narrowly missed as alternate at end. The Yeomen won only one conference game.
A Christmas Eve dance will be held at the USO hall for servicemen from Camp Hood and other camps spending Christmas in Cameron. The event starts about 9 p.m. Thursday. About 90 Cameron girls will go to Camp Hood tonight and around 60 will host men here. An estimated 100 men will come to Cameron for the holiday.
Cameron Motion Picture Theatres play a big part in holiday entertainment. John Prude manager booked outstanding pictures of the year at Cameron and Milam. Prude has become Cameron's No 1 host for the year. The Herald presents the full program with more features to follow for a full week of enjoyment with favorite stars.
London reports Carrier aircraft from a British carrier blasted Sumatra in early war days as Allies regain air superiority in the South Pacific. In other theaters, British forces sink ten Axis ships in the Mediterranean while air raids intensify globally.
Mayor Leland Green announced a grease collection truck will visit Cameron on Thursday to gather drippings saved by Cameron homes. The grease sells for 4 cents per pound and funds the scrap drive. Cameron has not yet responded. If Thursday’s haul is small, the truck may not return.
Gene Autry appears in his fifty second Republic feature Bells of Capistrano at the Milam Theatre on Christmas Day. He clashes with rival rodeos amid a feud, faces jail, and later aids World Wide Wild West, then reclaims his contract after uncovering arson.

General Archibald Wavell has advanced a British force about forty miles into Burma in territory held by Japan. The invasion reportedly lacks Japanese opposition and involved a large air armada overhead. The report notes other fronts: Red forces claim to have shot down Nazi planes, while Montgomery pushes on in Africa amid heavy air activity.
A Christmas Pageant under Mrs Mary Green was staged in the First Presbyterian Church auditorium last Sunday evening. A large crowd witnessed what many called one of the most effective Christmas Pageants by the Presbyterians with all church departments represented. A generous free will offering supported the Joy Gift Cause for aged and disabled ministers and widows with little income.
