Despondent farmer Lee Halpain dies by carbolic acid
Justice of Peace Gain held an inquest at the old Whitten place for Lee Halpain a 37 year old farmer who killed himself with carbolic acid at 5 am after despondent over finances. He died within minutes and left a wife seven children destitute with no property or life insurance. The body was buried at Prospect cemetery.

Four Year Old Sips Carbolic Acid in Thorndale
A four year old girl, Goldie Lamb, child of Mr and Mrs Bill Lamb, drank an ounce or more of carbolic acid Tuesday morning. Medical help arrived promptly and doctors treated her, easing her suffering though her mouth and chin were badly burned. Thorndale Thorn reports on the incident.
