Governor-Elect James E. Ferguson plans to dispose of a portion of his cotton crop at the current market and hold the remainder for better conditions. He doubts federal help will ease the South’s crisis and urges cooperation among merchants farmers and bankers. He also endorses a 15 percent cotton cut next year with initial reductions in his own fields.
E M Belk of the Southwestern Telegraph and Telephone Company spoke at The Herald office saying business is expanding. He noted new phones added daily with few discontinuances, and Cameron operations growing despite financial stringency linked to Far East tensions. His team of operators is among the best and Belk’s efforts drive the gains.
Houston judge says omitting the pledge from party primary ballots does not void ballots in the Democratic nomination fight for Congressman at Large. If upheld, McLemore likely wins by 1145 votes. MCClemore’s team to seek certification of his name to the Secretary of State. An appeal by Lane's counsel is planned next week.
Cotton picking progresses as ginning nears end. Coon Donaldson hosted a young people’s entertainment Saturday. Visitors from Maysfield attended Sunday school. Clay Phipps sang Sunday night. Maud Weems visited her uncle. Langfords entertained and relatives visited. Vaughan, Austin, Harrell, Phipps and Estelle attended Thursday night movies.
Saturday shoppers packed the sidewalks by 2 PM as cotton season sales peaked. The crowd swarmed stores where bargains were advertised and purchased throughout the day, drawing attention for its diverse, study-worthy turnout.
Temple Texas Sept 26 James E Ferguson Democratic nominee for Governor states he supports considering bank legislation at the proper time but opposes funding a large State bank with the State school fund securities. He says he would rather endure low cotton prices than risk losing funds allocated for public education and tomorrow education.
Washington reports Rep R L Henry chosen to act as floor manager in the house for farmers relief. The Farmers union backs buying 6 million bales of cotton for market relief, directing 300 to 400 million dollars in advances. Anticipated opposition from banking and currency committees could spark a major floor battle to open the bills to debate.

Stadler Peel and Miss Ruby Ireland wed last Thursday evening with Rev J W Cole officiating. Miss Ireland, daughter of J H Ireland of Cameron, was formerly with Thomas & Sons. Peel, from Port Sullivan, is from a strong Milam County family. They will live at Port Sullivan where Peel runs farming interests. The Guide extends congratulations. Fort Worth: Farmers Union leaders Radford and Lewis plan a resolution to President Wilson asking a 4 million dollar loan to Southern farmers for distress cotton.
