Democrats in Milam County form a plan of organization for the Roosevelt Garner ticket for November. A large meeting of over a hundred from each of 49 precincts, with a county and precinct chairmen, will convene at 2 pm Saturday September 24 in Cameron's district courtroom to finalize the effort.
A sausage and chicken supper will be held in Burlington at St. Michael school building starting 5 p m. The event, under St. Michael's parish, charges 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for children. A variety of foods and refreshments will be served. Community members and Cameron area residents are invited.
The First Baptist church of Cameron bids farewell to Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Gayle as they relocate to Waco. Mr. Gayle becomes leader of the young people at Seventh & James Street Baptist church. He has directed Cameron youth for over three years and leaves many friends behind.
Spot cotton ranged Te to 7 3-4c in Cameron on Thursday morning with middling at 7 1-4c. Poor staple priced higher for farmers than other points as Milam county crop placed under 40 000 bales. Compress warves received 6246 bales while hot dry weather allowed continued harvesting amid past floods easing. Conditions gradually improve and insect peril remains a concern.
Mrs. Mary Richards marked her 86th birthday on September 19 and visited daughter Mandy Walden in Belton while son George Richards of Cameron joined in at home. Ten of her 11 children are named, including A. B. Richards, Virg Richards, Mrs. M. W. Price, Mrs. Fannie Collins, and Mrs. Mamie Fuller, with residences spanning Crosby to Belton.
County commissioners visited Elm Ridge and reviewed extending a road from Pettibone to Waco Crossing bridge. A jury of view gave a favorable report and the road was ordered opened on the condition residents fence the route while the county provides wire and posts.
The New Majestic Radio has arrived at Green Brothers Store in Cameron and is on display. N. Green offers the all tube set at 89.50 with a station indicator by light signals and tuned reception with minimal interference. The tone is described as markedly improved and Majestic is noted for its famed tone now enhanced.
Little River Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at Jones Prairie on Sunday September 25 at Little River church. All interested are invited to attend and bring a basket for the dinner on the ground. Visitors are welcome to spend the day with association members and enjoy hospitality.
Co. W. Bradbury has purchased Louis S. Pierce interest in the Pierce and Bradbury Dry Goods Store in Cameron. The Fall Opening begins Friday morning September 26 with a large sale of high grade and new merchandise at low prices.
Cameron Hardware Co. completes a modern store reopening with new stock after a recent fire. Mr Freeman advertises low prices during the opening sale including a 60 watt light globe and a lawn mower at $6.59 as part of ongoing bargain offers and future ads.
Cameron District Baptists meet at First Baptist Church Cameron on September 28 to finalize plans for the Every Member Canvas Campaign as part of Texas Baptists drive to raise 600000 for missions and benevolences. District quota is 30000.
Due to higher postage costs, readers are urged to call or mail remittance to avoid delays. Delinquent accounts risk non delivery as the office tightens terms. A renewal offer of two dollars for three years is available to assist those behind on payments.
J H Vordenbaum director of extension from San Marcos organized a Saturday course in education at Yoe High School. Over 32 enrolled with many more expected. Milam County students and teachers with junior standing in state colleges eligible. Dr Votan of Stanford University will conduct Saturday classes at Yoe High School.
The First Baptist church hosts ongoing services led by Rev. McKinley Norman with T. D. Carroll directing music. Two daily services at 9 30 in the morning and 8 p m at night invite the public to participate and share in the ministry.
At Cameron the First Presbyterian Church observed its 50th anniversary on Sunday September 18 with Judge W G Gillis presenting a history of the church from its founding in 1882. Dr W R Hall led the service and challenged members to address world needs as there was tribute to charter members and a note on the debt free church building.
Milam County investigators linked to Governor Sterling search for election fraud to defeat Mrs. Ferguson in the nomination. They compare poll lists with official tax collector lists and query managers on certified polls and handwriting endorsements, aiming to disqualify votes.
Miss Maxine Tarver has been elected Secretary Treasurer of the Lone Star Burial Association and appointed notary public. She is the daughter of Paul Tarver, president of the Association, and will serve as office assistant in Cameron.
